DATV-Express Project - June update report

Post by KenW6HHC » Sun Jul 05, 2015 2:09 pm

Short report.

Ken W6HHC is still trying to finish up the release of v2.04 for DATV-Express software, but visiting relatives and preparations for his radio club’s Field Day consumed all of his ham-radio-time in June.

Alain F1CJN reported some problems he encountered with USB3 drivers on his 64-bit computer with Ubuntu 14.04.1…it does not recognize the DATV-Express board. The USB2 port works well on the same computer. Charles G4GUO confirmed that USB3 works well on his own 64-bit computer that uses an Intel series 7 controller / C210 chipset. As Charles points out, potential USB3 issues on 64-bit computers is something to be aware of with DATV-Express.

Art WA8RMC had reported in May that the received DVB-T (using 2 MHz bandwidth) became unstable while transmitting from ODROID. Art did confirm that one of the ODROID ARM cores is saturating while trying to run at DVB-T 2 MHz BW. Remember that the DATV-Express board was designed to run DVB-S and that there are limits when running DVB-T. With ODROID, DATV-Express has only been released for DVB-T and the BW no higher than 1 MHz. Please read all limits in the README file.

The remaining tasks before releasing v2.04 for ODROID are:
1) Start the UDP feature testing without using Express_Server
2) Then plan to test UDP testing using the Express_Server
3) Then plan to update User Guide for ODROID

Testing on ODROID V2.04 beta-software will now continue in July,
