Chinese 1.3Ghz (23-24cms) Yagis

Post by G8DKC » Wed Jan 07, 2015 9:44 am

I bought one of these 2 years ago to see what they were like, Diabolical!

And they are dragged out on all sorts of YouTube videos, from model aircraft, balloons, to SDR, used in none Ham type demos.

The construction looks ok, but hacking apart the driven system construction very poor, crimps bad earthing, etc.

But the theory is good, feeding the driven as a radiating balun, and spacing between the reflector driven and first two directors is not bad.

The only way to get a decent signal was off the back or holding vertical facing the ground, with fold toward the source!

Hack off everything but the first 4 elements and you have a handy yagi for those quick tests, "my one" works really well under test conditions.

This is just a one off test, others my not perform as this one. And what about the 2.4 Ghz 13cms ones?

Would I pay money for another one, well, a couple of quid at a car boot for the ally.

Hi Peter
Yes I agree in fact I find most commercial yagi's are poor especially those where the elements go through the boom.
It's the centre of the elements where the radiation comes from!
Also so many of them don't have a proper balun.
I have modified several yagi's and achieved an extra 10dB signal strength, this is so amazing that most people don't believe me.
Good luck.
