Who manages the DX-Spot website?
Hello,
Some time ago, I wrote a German translation of the help file and sent it to Phil, requesting that it be added as a PDF to the help page.
Unfortunately, this hasn't been implemented yet, and I haven't received a reply to my follow-up inquiry.
Now I've noticed that there's a link to "Online help is available at the dxspot.tv forum at BATC Forums" that doesn't exist.
Is DX-Spot still being maintained?
Who is the contact person?

Hi Thomas
Thanks for the feedback. As ever, our maintainer is very busy with his real job, but I'll pass your comments on.

Re: Who manages the DX-Spot website?
Hello Dave,
The Dutch D-ATV contest is this coming weekend.
Several German stations will be participating again.
It would be great if the translation could be available then.
Thank you for your Effort.

Re: Who manages the DX-Spot website?
Hello,
Four weeks have now passed.
Unfortunately, the German translation still hasn't been added to the site.
Furthermore, I registered our ATV repeater DB0OV as a regular station and provided its call sign so that it would be displayed as a repeater.
Unfortunately, this hasn't been done either.

Re: Who manages the DX-Spot website?
I propose we drop DX spot entirely from BATC. That would reduce the load on the web maintainer and avoid any future disappointment when our hard working volunteers go on holidays of otherwise don't have the time to provide support.DL5BCA wrote: ↑Mon Jan 05, 2026 3:10 pmHello,

Re: Who manages the DX-Spot website?
Hi Mike,
That wouldn't make any sense at all. The DX Spot page is used very actively for long-distance contacts and contests.
That's precisely my goal. As a member of the AGAF within the DARC, I want to promote participation in contests. Therefore, the translated user manual is important.
Then I was asked why English, French, Belgian, Dutch, and Italian repeaters are shown on the map, but no German repeaters.

Re: Who manages the DX-Spot website?
DXspot has been around for years now, and the basic functions generally work satisfactorily.
Thanks for that!
Years ago, I communicated regularly with the keeper, after which the many repeaters and the Dutch user manual were added.
At that time I contacted several countries, but the response was poor or non-existent.
Repeaters from those countries are therefore not listed.
Time goes by, and meanwhile, I see activity again in Germany and Belgium, great!
No one expects everyone jump to attention immediately because they have now woken up.
Perhaps what is expected is communication. What's wrong with reply, "It's on the list, but I don't know when I'll get around to it."?
Or automate this: a form you fill out with DXspot suggestions and then an autoreply, so at least you know it's arrived and is on a list somewhere.
It's easiest to drop everything that takes time or is questioned.
Indeed, DXspot is used quite a lot, not just during contests. It supports the objectives of the BATC, making it illogical to drop it.
If the current administrator isn't able to manage it, perhaps the general question is who could (and would want to) take it over?
It's always risky to assign (too) many tasks to one person.
Perhaps the German user manual could be brought to the attention of German ATV members through the AGAF in the meantime?
Keep thinking in positive solutions.

Re: Who manages the DX-Spot website?
Hi Chris,
thanks for your message.
The DX-Spot website is great and works perfectly. I wouldn't want to be without it.
I've registered our ATV repeater DB0OV as a regular station and I think it's fantastic that you can properly describe the operating modes in the description. Since we're now transmitting/receiving not only analog, some additional information is necessary (bandwidth, FEC, etc.).
I agree: a quick response should be possible so everyone understands if it's not implemented immediately. At least then we know the request has been received.
Well, I've certainly made quite a fuss. Perhaps we'll get some feedback from the person in charge or the board.
