Was there something about pluto on a portsdow 4 no tx with out a usb audio dongle in some situations,

There was, but I am assuming IK2UAC is following the instructions in the Wiki. I would go with that Pluto perhaps not liking the 5.1V. They can be fussy but it seems a bit extreme. The other possibility is the USB cable not being good or, for Langstone, another Pluto on the ethernet network being detected instead.

I'd agree, at 5.1V I was getting no end of 'Pluto not found' messages from my PD4. Adding a decent schottky diode (Vf=0.25V) into the positive line stopped all my problems and does not seem to make any difference to its working on my PC with DATVEasy etc...
