Portsdown 4 - Flickering 5 inch Display?

Hi All

I'm doing some off-topic software development work and using my Portsdown 4 with the 5 inch display. Every minute or so it flickers to black and then comes back on again. I'm pretty sure that it is not a software issue.

Has anyone else observed this, and if so do they know a cure? I'm wondering if turning the brightnesss down might help, but I can't easily access the control at the moment.

Situation is the same; I'm just living with it. Bought a second screen and it's the same.

Hi Steve

Sorry - I missed the flickering part of that post. Hopefully the touch improved with the software changes that I made in March (update 202203071 changed the way that touch was handled to make the 5 inch screen more responsive).

The next step is probably to work out if it is the backlight or the LCD causing the flicker.

I take it that adding "lcd_framerate=53" to config.txt is not a reliable fix?

Hi Dave,
Touch screen sensitivity is fine now, wifi still doesn't work and the screen still flickers to black occasionally. I think the framrate tweak made an improvement; not a cure.

I wonder about the flickering. The screen has a pot that sets the brightness, but that is probably just controlling a micro. Perhaps there is an occasional software glitch. It would be worth loading up a desktop instead and seeing if it still does it before delving into the Portsdown code. Mine does the opposite, it goes full brightness, very rarely and only for an instant.
