This wasn't intended as a critisism of the wonderful work done by Dave and the rest of the Portsdown Team, however it was more a comentary on the decisions I have made in the purchase of equipment.
I wanted a portable unit, the Portsdown being the ideal, but every step I seem to take is the wrong one.
1) The DATV-Express will not do S2 although it will work at 2.4GHz (the thursday eve net is S2), I bought one of the second batch and imported it at great expense.
2) The BATC modulator does not do 2.4GHz, ok a little lack of vision here ref future use, but I built one from a bare board and also later bought a fully tested one.
3) The Pluto which was the device of choice and wildly touted as the next step in the Portsdown back in 2017 never made it into release, but I bought one as everyone was saying that this was the future.

I eagerly followed down the path that people suggested which has cost over £500 in just the modulation board/modules, but at the end of the day the options I have chosen does not get me to where I would like to be, which is with a working Portsdown which I can use for QO-100 and join in the Thursday net.

So I think the answer to my original question is that yes the pluto purchase was the wrong thing to do, I should have waited until there was clear evidence that it would be supported in the Portsdown.
I know I can use a laptop with the Pluto for DTV, but that then ceases to be the single box portable unit that is the Portsdown.
And ok the Pluto is used in the Langstone but I don't need that as I already have microwave gear for SSB/FM up to 10GHz.

As I said, not a critisism of the Portdown Team, just my own folly.
Regards
Terry
