Bricked lime mini?

Post by g0nzo » Thu Apr 16, 2020 11:08 pm

OK, first time I've tried the lime mini, on the portsdown.
Brand new lime-mini and the latest portsdown pi image.

Running through the command line interface, in the 'system setup' menu option.
Using the option 'lime status' was initially able to read the FW version.
Recalling that there was some updated FW needed, I selected 'lime update' from this menu.
The update scrolled passed, till it got to about 27%, then reported a write error.
Now the portsdown won't see it at all.

I have since noticed that there is a separate lime-mini menu option.
So have I loaded the wring FW?
And if so, what's the procedure to recover it?

Ta
Jules.

Hi Jules

The update is very unlikely to have bricked it (fingers crossed!). So I know what you've done, please tell me what Portsdown version you are running and exactly which button you pressed? And were you connected to the internet at the time?

Dave,

Thanks for the reply.

I was using the ssh interface, rather than the touchscreen.

Latest portsdown image (From mem, that was Feb20th).
I did a check for Portsdown updates, via the ssh screen, and it confirmed that it was at the latest.

Through the System->Lime Status
Got the FW version ok.

Then System->Lume Update.
It started transfering the FW, but at 27% ish it stopped with a write error.

Yes I was connected to the internet.

Hi Jules

The menu option simply runs the Linux Command

Code: Select all

LimeUtil --update
So looks to be a system problem, rather than a Portsdown problem.

Can I suggest that you go the Linux command line (On the Portsdown Menu, Shutdown, exit to Linux) and then start with:

Code: Select all

LimeUtil --help
The try

Code: Select all

LimeUtil --make
Then

Code: Select all

LimeUtil --force --update
If you post the results, we can think again.

What power supply are you using for the Lime? A powered USB Hub?

Dave,

The results:

pi@raspberrypi:~ $ LimeUtil --update
No devices found
pi@raspberrypi:~ $ LimeUtil --make
Make device
No available device!
pi@raspberrypi:~ $ LimeUtil --force --update
No devices found

And I have a powered hub.

Hi Jules

Hmm, that's not good. What do you get from

Code: Select all

lsusb
?

Does a windows computer see it?

OK, windows saw it.
But after all the myther of getting to the connections, I tried just plugging it straight into the pi, without the powered hub.
Abd can see it.
So looks like the hub is faulty, or somehow incompatible.

So simple, I didn't bother to try!

Cheers for the advice Dave.

Possibly the hub is not supported under stretch - good you got it sorted. Now, get your finger out, put the feed on that big dish you have and get on the transponder!

Mike,

Really not sure what the issue with the hub is. Needs more investigation.

The dish is in place with a feed and pointing in the right place.
Already put some 250ksym pictures through QO100, from the pluto. With a loan PA from Paul M0EYT. But with the low drive I had for the PA, I was probably only getting a few watts out. The best I could do was 6dB below the beacon. But a few regulars on the bird did just about get pictures from me.
And well below what my 60cm rx dish would see.

A bit more work to do, but getting there!

The portsdown/lime is going to be for terrestrial playing.

Let me know when you are next on and PAs are not really such a problem as you will only need 20W with the large dish.
