Mike! The only "dumb" question possible- is not asked one!
As for physical placement of the feed, I think that determining of it's best position, without using special equipment, is experimental tests.

Can't agree more with the above comment, if it was me I'd set the dish up as it is and peak it up on QO100. This would give me a starting point to aim for. Then I'd try and get the POTY at a similar point as the secondary reflector and then adjust untill I got a similar signal strength as I got with the original setup. Don't give up on the dish just think of it as more of a challenge and more fun than a standard off set dish Mike.
