Video to show Raspberry Pi and Portsdown setup

Post by g8lce » Sun Jul 21, 2019 8:40 am

Hi all,

Here is a link to the first video I have made for some local amateurs on the basics of using a Raspberry Pi with the Portsdown software. I took a quick break from gardening to make it. It is probably very basic for most of the users of this site. I intend to do at least two more videos looking at the ways to get video and audio into the Raspberry Pi and another on getting the RF into the dish for Oscar 100. I have a similar Forum on g8lce.com so that I can sort questions out with the local amateurs without using up space here. NOTE If you really want to use g8lce.com you would have to use your callsign to register ( and hope your email is not xxx@mail.ru :-) )
I will answer questions here as well.

(The video does contain adverts that you can skip)

Thanks Martin. I found it very interesting especially seeing the different options and configurations.

I have built a Portsdown 2019 with the larger display and the LimeSDR Mini. So far I only have it working in Ugly mode but I did find your video very useful and I have ordered the Aukey USB hub now ...

Thanks again!

Here is a further video to show a few more things that may be useful to new users.

There will be more videos as questions are asked and I remember other points. I will put more on g8lce.com when I have time.

Martin,

Some links for the various bits and pieces would be very useful!

I would put links but most of the bits are from Ebay and the links would have run out by now. I have shown the software used and there are good instructions from the BATC other than that Googling will help. When I have more time I intend to add a page to my g8lce.com web site but there is yet another video to make I think!
The connectors are SMA male and female, with and without pins.
The leads I use are like this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SMA-MALE-to- ... SwFdtXytGe but I might have looked for a bulk pack from outside the UK.
This type of pack can be useful https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/18-Pcs-SMA-C ... 9cc3d93282
And various things like this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4pcs-set-PL2 ... 663c85dca1
and https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/20cm-SMA-Mal ... SweW5U~mEa

This is only a rough guide and the point made in the video about pins and no pins must be remembered.

I am only someone who has worked out how these bits work together and hope to pass on some points to help others. The people who design and build the equipment and write the software allow me to do the DATV and they are the ones that have done all the work.
