7-inch Touchscreen from Element 14
Re: 7-inch Touchscreen from Element 14
At Finningley yesterday, Tony G0AZQ showed me a £59 7 inch touchscreen touchscreen that he had bought from CPC: http://cpc.farnell.com/raspberry-pi/ras ... dp/SC13858 . For only £18 he had also been able to obtain the plastic mounting case.
However, we could not get the touchscreen to do anything.
Have users of the Element 14 7 inch screen been loading any extra drivers, or making any extra connections apart from DSI ribbon and power?
Thanks
Dave

Re: 7-inch Touchscreen from Element 14
Hi Dave
I am using this screen and housing
It's packed away now ready for house move .
Is he using the supplied T piece 5v supply cable to power the screen and pi ??? If not think he needs to put a jumper between the pi and the screen board.
No extra drivers required ....just need to select the correct screen in the portsdown set up menu
There was some info from G4FRE and G4WIM on another thread somewhere when I was having screen problems
Sorry a bit vague but don't have the portsdown to hand
Regards
Steve

Thanks Steve
I found it here http://www.batc.org.uk/forum/viewtopic. ... =10#p12627
Tony was using the T piece 5V supply cable, but we could not seem to get any touch responses. Maybe selecting the TonTec would have sorted it.

Re: 7-inch Touchscreen from Element 14
I have NOT used my 7-inch Element 14 display since Dave G8GKQ posted on July 15:
But that issue, does not sound like the Element 14 problem described by Tony G0AZQ at Finningley who said the LCD "did nothing". I found that installing the flat ribbon connectors is quite "non positive"...that is: only about one-out-of-four of my attempts to install the flat ribbon cable into the connectors would succeed?

So at least one output mode in Portsdown does not work with Element 14 since release 201707120. Perhaps I made the mistake of thinking the posting meant that functionality for the Element 14 display was now "broken" and I have not tried it again.“…just issued a new release 201707120. The aim of the release is to introduce a new output mode, which sends the RPi camera picture, test pattern or contest numbers to the RPi video output as a Composite PAL Signal. This enables mixed digital and analog portable operation with only one camera required……The new mode does not work with the Element 14 7-inch display (or an HDMI display) as these displays disable the composite video output from the RPi. Analog NTSC video output is not supported….”

Re: 7-inch Touchscreen from Element 14
Hi Ken
Everything should still work with the Element 14 Screen, except that Composite Video output from the RPi AV socket is not available.
Even the Video Output feature "works" - it's just useless because it sends the video to the Element 14 display and not the RPi AV output socket!
