Solution to Problems in using HDMI Cables for the Pi Camera
Solution to Problems in using HDMI Cables for the Pi Camera
Hi All
I know that some Portsdown builders have had problems getting HDMI Cables to work with the Tindie adapter cards to extend the reach of the Pi Camera cable. Some cables just give no video. I have put details of a solution on the Wiki here: https://wiki.batc.org.uk/CSI-2_to_HDMI.
Before these modifications, only 2 of my 8 HDMI cables would work. After Modification 1, a further 4 worked, and Modification 2 cured the problems with the final 2.
Please let me know how you get on.
Dave, G8GKQ

Re: Solution to Problems in using HDMI Cables for the Pi Camera
Hi Dave G8GKQ,
I have included an enhanced JPEG of Modification 1 for the Wiki, I think it makes the solder bridge location more apparent for the viewer?

Mod-1 solder bridge is more apparent with an arrow
Also, what is the normal "symptom" for a "bad cable"?? Perhaps NO VIDEO??
I was just about to start my HDMI extender-cable mod this week....great timing.
THANKS...de Ken

If you have a very early board without the link you need to run a small wire from the body of the HDMI socket to the GND.
I did this mod on all of my DigiThin camera connectors. Remember to do the same at the camera end.

If anyone finds or has already found an HDMI cable that works without modifying the 2 adapter pcb's please let us know on here. Links to them online if possible please.
Thanks Ken

If im on the right track. An ebay search in title & description using the term "HDMI Cable CEC" should find them.
Thanks Ken

Ken
I bought an official Raspberry Pi HDMI cable for my pi camera when I started this caper in 2017. Looking back through the emails it was this one:-
https://uk.farnell.com/raspberry-pi/cpr ... dp/2545204
It worked absolutely fine with the Tandie adapter kit.
I think it was on the official compatibility list at the time.
