Portsdown RF output switch - now in shop

Post by g8gtz » Tue May 23, 2017 10:31 pm

A BLANK PCB for the Portsdown RF output switch is now available in the shop.

See https://wiki.batc.tv/RF_output_switch for more details - note this is suitable to switch the LOW level output of the Filter Modulator board ONLY, it will not handle high power from drivers or PAs and is not designed for use above 23cms.

It may however be useful to switch the input to a MiniTiiouner tuner but has NOT been tested in that application and you would need a band control mechanism to switch the board.

I asked Colin G4KLB about the RF connectors seen in his example Portsdown all over the Wiki - the ones on the parts list described as ??? . They're SMA female bulkhead to PCB and it's easy to find ones without 4 corner mounting posts on Ebay that then won't fit the PCB. [2 corner and 2 at half way].
He advised looking for "SMA Female jack Thru Hole Bulkhead RF connector PCB Mount straight RF Connector"
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/301878599401? ... EBIDX%3AIT

My order for 4 came to £8.32 and are on the slow boat from China. Colin said he paid £5 each at Digikey for delivery in a few days.
I hope this is helpful.

Neither Farnell type are bulkhead. If you need the longer thread, washer and nut then the eBay link is good.

For the patient ;)
Find me on the LEO/MEO satellites.

The Farnell part number for these type of connectors is 2507873. They are £5 each without VAT just like at Digikey.

Would anyone sell me or can spare 2 off 4K53 805 resistors please ? I've everything else to hand.
(Caution - shopping for 4.53K at Farnell gets you 453K resistors as my dear friend Dave G7MEG found out)

Cheers

The part number listed in the parts list spreadsheet for the 4K53 resistor is WRONG. It is listed as 2303836
which is a 453K resistor - the part number should be 2303621.

Can someone fix this - I've ordered the wrong ones too!

I have now corrected the RF Output switch parts list on the Wiki to have the correct Farnell part number for the 4.53K resistor.

It is worth noting that anyone could have made this change to help the community - just request a Wiki account and you can correct anything that you find wrong. More support from the community would give me more time to improve and add features to the software!

I didn't realise but will do so in future.

I've finished the output board now and I think the 70cm and 2M output connector PCB labels are transposed. I.E. My 2M output is on the 70cm socket and visa versa.

Anyone else confirm this?

Ignore my last post - a classic case of Muppetry and the MSB LSB lines being swapped.
