Publicising Portsdown
Publicising Portsdown
Now we know it works and people are starting to build the project, we're thinking about how we can publicise the project and use it to introduce people to ATV and show them how easy it can be.
As a start we have produced a 2 page A4 brochure introducing the project with a block diagram and the specification of the transmitter - this is available on the wiki on this page where you can print it out or email it to your local radio club. : https://wiki.batc.tv/Marketing_materials
Let us know if you have any other bright ideas...

Re: Publicising Portsdown
Not exactly a bright idea but a few more local digital repeaters might help - there is no coverage around here so no activity. Anyone new has nobody to work. That must be true in many other places. The problem with a repeater is the license takes ages and not to mention all the other work. So, how about a network of web connected receivers that stream to the BATC streamer? These could be based on the Minitioune and Pipo for example. 23cm or 70cm and maybe even 146.5MHz.

Good idea Mike,
As it's not specifically related to Portsdown I've replied here http://www.batc.org.uk/forum/viewtopic. ... 828#p11740 - how about one on the Ridgeway ....

Hi Noel,
At the recent Bett show ( http://www.bettshow.com ) the Raspberry Pi foundation were there.

They had never heard of the PI being used for Amateur television and were very very interested. Neither had they heard of BATC
Might be worth contacting them ?
They are always looking for new things that the PI can be used for.
Kill 2 birds , write an article and ask for a BATC members discount ...
Yes , hahahaha Im a Yorkshire Man who happens to like PIE , I'm not the Pi'd Piper

Re: Publicising Portsdown
Further to that mentioned above.
What about Ebay ?
The BATC could sell stuff on there. Fast instant payment BIG publicity Worldwide.
As the BATC is into Television ...create a YouTube Presence , or how-to-Portsdown BLOG , again Worldwide. I "think" YouTube also has LIVE streaming too, perhaps that could be used.
Hammer / use the Sunday Morning RSGB news .. make a Portsdown announcement
For local ATV news on the RSGB news local hams "could" announce their activity night for their own area.
Could also mention BATC DATV . Portsdown builders can use the form from BATC website to apply for an NOV for 2meters RBW Digital ATV.
Then again , when a few people have got their stuff working and Portsdown ON-THE AIR NIGHT. Announced on RSGB news.
mailshot or email ALL UK ATV repeater keepers and ask them to put a page on ( if they would be so kind ) their repeater.
Put a NONE transmitting PI on the streamer with rolling pages featuring the Portsdown. Even a video of how it all
connects together, or just lots of changing images / photos of the build.

Re: Publicising Portsdown
Some good ideas Ken,
I've already made contact with the Raspberry Pi foundation with a view to getting an article placed in Magpi (the magazine) - someone has just got to write it now! Similarly, I've approached Radcom and will hit RSGB news once we get the article written and published.
Good idea re a channel on the streamer and we are hoping to get a promo video made by a well known amateur radio video news reel which can go on the Youtube channel.
