DATV-Express team is proceeding with building more boards

Post by KenW6HHC » Thu Nov 24, 2016 3:43 pm

The DATV-Express project team was flooded with stand-by orders in November. As of now the team has board stand-by orders from all over the world totaling 32 boards. There are now enough people with stand-by reservations for the DATV-Express board that we decided to initiate another production run. Forty-eight blank PCB boards have already been ordered by Art WA8RMC with delivery of the blanks scheduled in mid-December. Therefore we should be able to ship completed assembled boards by the end of December.

Anyone holding back waiting for production availability should enter a stand-by reservation now. No payments are required for a standby order, just your commitment to buy a board or two when the project team completes this next production-lot. The pricing will remain the same…US$300 + shipping (from USA) via PayPal. If you are willing to agree to a standby order, then send an e-mail to
Support@DATV-Express.com

The project team is surprised by the DATV-Express board popularity and we thought the market was close to being saturated. That clearly is not the case. So, we will continue to have stock as long as there is demand for them. Thank you for your support. We will turn on the www.DATV-Express.com website PayPal ordering function as soon as the production boards are assembled, tested, and ready for delivery.

Kind regards,
The DATV-Express team

This is great news, I was talking about "some are turning away from ATV as it all gets too technical".

Maybe the sale of "stand alone" modulators reduced the Express sales and interest, but they have their place.

Yes we went through the stage of using and changing settings in Ubuntu, external Mpeg-2 encoders, and probably lost a few there,
a parallel to the DigiLite for a while, but still Linux.

No problem here with Linux :-) it is the backbone of everything we use today, (Linux is an Open Source software development and is a free Operating System), and when you get used to using it's version of a "windows" desktop and "command" terminal, you will see why it shines.

As far as I can see, Just as Charles had come up with a viable Windows interface, the board was perceived as dropping in popularity, it's not a business, just hams working together, so no profit / production time line on the board, software and hardware meeting on day zero.

Not that some commercial companies don't put their product out and then (security to one side) "patch" it later :o

With other Batc members introducing us to vMix, I think we have a winning combination to make ATV look professional.

We will be moving on with future developments of the LimeSdr with it's higher frequency range etc.

Thanks to The DATV-Express project team for "tasting the air"

Peter
