On the hardware side, obviously subject to keeping 23cm TX, hopefully, will be interested to hear some thoughts on the ideal setup.

Currently we have a hardware encoder/driver (cannot remember the make), going into a couple of drivers and PA.

The question is, rather than use the old DVB-S 4 Msymbols 1/2 FEC - maybe the repeater should have a facelift and use the Portsdown Repeater and Pi. My concern is Pi reliability, as the site is not readily accessible. The current repeater hardware was on 24/7 for a few years and never had an issue.

Thoughts on the subject, preferred settings etc. would be appreciated. TX Pics attached just for interest.

PS. ignore the screwdriver - this is a feature :)
I personally think it looks well constructed as it is ……having problems tonight with my minitouner and portsdown recognising each other …hasn’t been used recently so probably me

Hi Steve

The numbers on the end are wrong; the format is 2 letters, 2numbers, 2 letters, 2 numbers & 2 letters. For example GB3EY is located at IO93RS37ME

Don't know if you use it, but kyfry.com/grid is good.

Hi Dave,

That's an SR systems system which runs DVB-S and MPEG-2.

To be honest you really need to replace it with a DVB-S2, H264 unit running ideally 1Ms but if it means getting on air quickly then reducing the SR to 2Ms will gain you 3dB.

See CQ-TV266 page 9 on why we suggest 1Ms.

Current thinking on repeater architecture is to run Ryde receivers outputting HDMI into the BATC HDMI controller in to a Chinese Link Pi Enc V2 encoder driving a Pluto - all of which can be paid for by a BATC bursary.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Smartfly-info- ... B08TC7V3T6 - this encoder will do both the stream generation to drive the Pluto and a streaming channel.

https://wiki.batc.org.uk/Repeater_Controller

Looking forward to getting the NoV application.

Many thanks all for your comments and Noel for support. Application has been submitted.

In the interim, will look at, discuss, the BATC Repeater Controller route - thanks.

Great to see the new repeater planned for Maidstone (Detling Hill) Let me know if you need any help. Hopefully I might be able to receive it at my dad's house in Lenham, though I suspect Petts Wood will be shadowed by Wrotham. How about a 70cm or 2m input?

Hopefully I'll be on the BATC net on Tuesday.
