Secure Reliable Transport

Post by G8KOE » Sat Nov 30, 2024 5:03 pm

What is it do we need it?
Take a look at video on YouTube

The real difference between SRT and RTMP

https://youtu.be/mT8uJIbb2e8

What do you need to get started.
You can use OBS to send and receive SRT.
I use OBS to send and SRT Player fo recieve which is installed on RPi Pi 3B.

https://streamrus.com/player.html

You can download FREE image and install on RPi 2,3,or 4.
Today Martin G4FKK and myself have been testing with excellent results two way.

Hope to see you soon on SRT

Hi Martin

Don't forget there is the GPIO to activate something when the stream is recieved
This is was made the Picocell posible, that and the Pi automatically switching to an test patern when signal drops
We put a delay on in the rare event the stream drops and for a transition to test patern at the end of transmission
If someone clever got inside the StreamRus software, other things might be possible

# version 1.0.4 (2021/05/03):
- GPIO 26 activated for stream playback indicator led

Hello,
We have been running the "SRT Player for RPi" in our repeater DB0OV for several years.
If I remember correctly, at first the player could only decode RTMP.

At my request to the Spanish company, the activation of a GPIO was implemented so that a signal is available for evaluation.

The Raspi runs very stable and hangs in the hamnet.

We are very happy with it.

Hi,
A big thankyou for all the information.
GPIO 26 will be very usefull for repeaters to implement SRT
Trying to promote and catch up with SRT
Now have a SRT Player on all the time my station is operational.

Thankyou Thomas

It was only by accident I discovered this wonderful feature
The version information is not obvious on the web site

Hey Martin and Roger,

It should be noted that the Raspberry outputs 3.3 volts and a level-UP converter must be used for otherwise common 5-volt systems.
In our repeater, everything is queried or set with 5 volts using MCP23017. Therefore the level-UP converter is necessary.

There is a little delay in the evaluation, so it is an advantage to inform users that it may take 10 seconds before the stream is displayed.

I also think it's great that you can choose either CVBS or HDMI.

Hi Thomas,
Thank you for more useful information.

Another successful tests with Peter GW7BZY
Only problem we had was that he uses vMix and it did not like my ddns.net address.

Hi Martin

Vmix and OBS are viable options, but don't forget many of the cheap HDMI encoders send SRT too
Link Pi, TBS2603 and many of the cheapies, some H264 and others H265, using HDMI out from the PC, Atem or other
I just bought a Kiloview E2, the receivers signal lamp activates the power supply to the Kiloveiw
The encoder powers on and automatically forwards SRT recieved from the repeater to the picocell

This could be done at the repeater too, if the internet is reliable and has the bandwidth
We do it "off air" because the Wifi link to the repeater is iffy from time to time, slight extra delay
Many of the newer encoders have HDMI in and out that can go inline with the PC output, again slight delay
Here is my one take wonder vids and power point if you can hack my babble and mistakes of the Pico cell concept
