HamTV Status
Re: HamTV Status
Thanks for the update Phil, a bit more time to finish building the gear now
Re: HamTV Status
If the signal is down a bit what size/type dishes and feeds are you guys using
Parabola or offset dish?
Poty or helix?
Or is stuck it and see the go

Latest update from the ARISS-I meeting on 16 July 2024:
Some work still needs to be completed to enable the placement of the HamTV in the Columbus module. Technically this is known as a “topology reassessment” and this may take a further three months to complete. Therefore the expected commencement of operations remains “TBD”
So that potentially pushes the switch-on of HamTV back to October 2024.

Re: HamTV Status
Just a thought anyone know of a satellite with a S band downlinks that we can check our HamTv set ups with ? I can find various satellites that reportedly use S band but nothing that's 100%, seems a lot only Tx on S band when asked to via ground control.

Hi Roger at the moment I have a 65cm offset dish with a 5 turn helix,

Ideally I'd like to have a 1m mesh dish as the Pan&Tilt head I'm using probably won't handle too much weight.

Nice work John, take care it doesn't blow over
Yeh, I've looked at fibreglass, Solid Aluminium, too heavy
The TP link style 2.4ghz grid dish with a different feed might work they are 90ish across
Mesh is a good choice size to weight and strenght
There is the aluminium Triax dishes with the aluminium arms but they aren't very strong
In my unparalleled dish collection there isn't such a thing around a metre or so: light and strong
We don't have the perforated sky dishes in VK, pretty much all solid steel 65 and 80cm
Making one sounds like hard work, Noel's DIY dish is neat and I assume his has a helical feed with a cover over it
One of those carbon fibre dishes with petals that slot together would be nice, if you could afford it
I'm gravitating to cutting down a C band mesh dish to around a metre with an angle grinder
There is no shortage of old ones at work

Re: HamTV Status
Hi John, I built a 1m dia mesh dish in the hope that eventually I will see pictures from the ISS. It's mounted on the Mk 1 mount. I'm currently building a Mk 2 version, a more heavy duty version with computer control. I decided to use a feed horn ( 2 Tesco tins of potatoes soldered together.) instead of a helix. The reason being a Helix would be more likely to pickup Wifi interference coming in from the side. I used a dielectric plate to give circular polarisation. Measured as 2.5db improvement from linear. Probably 0.5db loss in the dielectric.
Re: HamTV Status
Very nice dish Nick, one day I'll get around to building one of I don't find something in the meantime. As to WiFi yes I do see that with the helix but thankfully I'm semi rural here and its not too bad, but interested in more details on your feed if it's posted anywhere ?
