Re: IC-905 - Commercial FM ATV Transceiver
As mentioned above, Noel and I were lucky enough to play with a pair of IC-905s last week in support of an Icom publicity video filmed by the TX Factor team. We demonstrated 5.6 GHz FM ATV and 10 GHz SSB.

Re: IC-905 - Commercial FM ATV Transceiver
At last a good review.
Is cross band duplex TV possible?
Is cross band duplex TV possible?
Re: IC-905 - Commercial FM ATV Transceiver
Crossband yes, but duplex No. One of the downsides is that it does not do duplex at at all. I think that will be a problem for the voice/data Satellite operators as well.

Re: IC-905 - Commercial FM ATV Transceiver
Hi
I now have an IC-905 on my test bench for a few days for review. I am planning to write articles for both RadCom and CQ-TV so will not be providing much more information here. In those articles I will address system capabilties, compatibility with existing ATV FM systems and general performance and usability.
However, I am interested in what questions potential users might have, that I have not thought of. I am addressing all the issues already mentioned in this thread, but if you have a NEW question, please ask here.

Re: IC-905 - Commercial FM ATV Transceiver
Hi Dave
Mentioned the Cat cable is it the norm or some Special Icom thing.
Whats included, with the purchase if you can find out?
Are the Brackets/hardware included to mount the Units up the pole?
Is it the same size as the 705 as in the Protective cage of the 705 will fit 905 ?
I have the Brain trust thinking of other groovy Q's

Re: IC-905 - Commercial FM ATV Transceiver
Good review thanks for taking the time,
Items which spring-to-mind and maybe important to clarify for myself and others;
1. Is it possible to use the 905 to transmit an audio subcarrier using the 905's microphone while simultaneously sending WBFMATV video?
2. Is it possible to use the 905 to send wideband audio using the WBFMTV video modulator? For compatibility with the audio over video input WBFM 'drone' modifications?
3. Confirmation that no analogue signals are present on the base to masthead interconnecting cable.
4. What protocols are used over the interconnecting cable and are they open source?
5. Any thoughts on modification for other bands, or an additional 'transverter output' especially for 9cm.
Thanks
Steve

Hello Dave,
Thank you for your effort.
I would be interested to know whether the RF module can also be operated remotely - via a WLAN route?

Re: IC-905 - Commercial FM ATV Transceiver
Unfortunately unfortunately , IC-905 in PAL standard region in FMTV mode is almost unusable in its current state.
Here is my test.....

Icom 905 ATV, Works pretty well in VK, we use PAL system, may not be 100% perfect no issues

Re: IC-905 - Commercial FM ATV Transceiver
Hi Rob
Facts:
1. PAL video standard has color subcarrier at 4.433... MHz
2. NTSC video standard has color subcarrier at 3.579... MHz
3. IC-905 ---> video path , measured !!, by software strongly suppresses all frequencies above 4MHz ( RX and TX path )
4. i assume we are of the same opinion, there can be no color without color subcarrier, right ?
5. i assume that the same software is available for download under software version 1.15 for the whole world.
6. and I assume that the hardware of all IC-905 is the same for the whole world ( so does my IC-905 )
An analog PAL camera generates its own color carrier 4,433MHz and sends it together with sync pulse and video content to the video camera output.
You use this PAL camera signal on the video input of your IC-905, correct ?
Please explain to me how you can see the color on the other receiver if no color carrier is sent or present ?
Video signal path, measured frequency response of IC-905.... and this is what it should look like....
