One of the problems is that there are 3 different encoding methods used for different modes in Portsdown and each handles different video capture devices differently:
- MPEG-2 on all devices except the Pluto uses an ffmpeg encoder
- The Pluto is not capable of transmitting MPEG-2 from the Portsdown
- H264 on all devices except the Pluto uses F5OEO's avc2ts encoder.
- H264 on the Pluto uses ffmpeg to encode an rtmp stream, which is then transformed into a transport stream in the Pluto
My preferred HDMI capture device is the LKV373A, and the Portsdown 4 does support use of this device to stream to the BATC streamer.
