Whilst I am very pleased that users are experimenting with new capabilities, I would like to emphasise that this HDMI input device is not properly supported in the Portsdown software.

One of the problems is that there are 3 different encoding methods used for different modes in Portsdown and each handles different video capture devices differently:
  • MPEG-2 on all devices except the Pluto uses an ffmpeg encoder
  • The Pluto is not capable of transmitting MPEG-2 from the Portsdown
  • H264 on all devices except the Pluto uses F5OEO's avc2ts encoder.
  • H264 on the Pluto uses ffmpeg to encode an rtmp stream, which is then transformed into a transport stream in the Pluto
The Portsdown is not like Windows or Desktop Linux - it is an "appliance" designed for specific tasks.

My preferred HDMI capture device is the LKV373A, and the Portsdown 4 does support use of this device to stream to the BATC streamer.

Please remember that HDMI to USB dongles aren't supported. just experimenting
Tried another type today and this one works much better DVB-S to sym rate 4000 and DVB-S2 all the way up to 32APSK.
limited testing to-date, but found if I enter the transmitted parameters manually into MiniTiouner it received everything I tried sofar

There was an article in CQTV 265 by G7JTT on OBS and Portsdown. If you are a member you should be able to download it. If not perhaps it can be shared / put on the Wiki. There is already quite a lot of information on the Wiki https://wiki.batc.org.uk/The_Portsdown_Transmitter and the method for VMIX is explained https://wiki.batc.org.uk/Feeding_Video_ ... _from_vMix which is quite similar to OBS.
