I ordered an x-tal that will get the LO to about 9100MHz when using the high band. I think I can run this test later this week... The PLL can be found in the "long-neck" LNB's from Inverto.

Kevin G3AAF has a number of 27.1628906 VCTXOs which he will be talking about at CAT13.

He will have some units available on the day, so bring along your LNB as it would be a good opportunity to modify and then test your own unit on the 10 GHz test equipment which will be on site.

Details of CAT13 = http://www.batc.org.uk/forum/viewforum.php?f=74

I'll bring along a few 27.5MHz crystals in case anyone wants to do the 438MHz output narrowband conversion to the Octagon LNB.

This is the dual LNB I've been using. It leaves one output unconverted for satellite or ATV use, but you can run both ATV and NB from the converted output for a single feed.

I've been using an F tee piece with an F-BNC adapter. A 20-30dB atttenuator seems about right to offset the high gain of the LNB. You would need to block the DC to the attenuator. An SMD capacitor fits nicely in a right-angle BNC plug.

Hi All,

I've just made inquiries re the Inverto LNB's from one of our suppliers, suppliers and asked him to inquire with inverto if any of the LNB's they currently stock are PLL. On the other Octogon LNB's like I think Brian said the tracks are so easily lifted.... and it was even harder to repair! I have replaced both the 27mhz crystals with a 27.5Mhz (thanks to brian, see you CAT13) and the other with a 25.5Mhz. Im not sure how to check or tell if the PLL is locking but a test signal of 10.315Ghz from my penny feed gunmod2 did not appear at 438Mhz ish but more like 338Mhz?? I don't think the 25.5Mhz crystal is working!!!! Any thoughts?

With a 27.5MHz crystal, the LO should be about 9930.5MHz, so 10315MHz should appear at 384.5MHz on low band.

With a 25.5MHz crystal, the LO should be about 9208.3MHz, so 10315MHz should appear at 1106.7MHz on low band.

The info here implies that 25.5MHz seems to be the lowest usable crystal frequency:

I was asked to put up the slides from the CAT13 LNB presentation as a reference for the frequency calculations.

Dear all

Sorry to warm up this threat. Yesterday I tested a Octagon Optima OTLSO pll (with the right EAN number for PLL LNB). Put a 14V DC supply with the T adapter. I send a test signal on 10368 but see nothing on 618 MHz. I use sdrsharp & HDSDR with a funcube dongle plus. The LNB has no new christal - I understand it is not needed if you are ok to receive on 618 MHz. The big "but" is that I had bought a single LNB. On all information I get via internet only twin were mentioned. Did anybody make same experiences ? I also have a "old" LNB with modified 9 GHz DRO oscillator, this works.

I think the 'T' means twin output, so it is strange that yours is single.

If you are feeding it power from a satellite receiver, make sure that the 22kHz tone is off, or it will switch to the 10.6MHz LO.

I cannot think of any other reason why it should not work. Do you see / hear noise when you turn the power on? Can you try it on Astra?

I have been looking at the following web site and there appears to be at difference in the EAN numbers for the PLL variants as posted by G8GTZ Feb 2013.
I would be grateful if someone has definitive information so I can go ahead and buy a PLL LNB (assuming the sellers advertise correctly!)

From the web site:
http://www.octagon-germany.eu/produkte/ ... ima-serie/

OCTAGON OPTIMA LNB Single OSLO PLL EAN-Barcode 4260189991124
OCTAGON OPTIMA LNB Single Slim OSLSO EAN-Barcode 4260189991131
OCTAGON OPTIMA LNB Twin OTLO EAN-Barcode 4260189991148
OCTAGON OPTIMA LNB Twin Slim OTLSO PLL EAN-Barcode 4260189991155
