Motorola MHW2723

Post by G8XZD-TV » Fri Feb 22, 2013 8:38 pm

Has anyone built up an amp for DATV using the Motorola MHW2723 that could pass on either a board layout or some constructional tips.

Many thanks Ian.

There's a document here in French:

http://f1chf.free.fr/DIGILITE/Ampli%205 ... 0F1DJO.PDF

If I've understood the French correctly, pcbs are available from CIMKO for €3 + €2 postage. Google says the description means 'epoxy with printed chokes'.

Email: cimko at free.fr

Perhaps if several people were interested, it would be worth ordering a few to save on postage from France.

Thanks for the info - would certainly be interested in a couple myself having purchased a few of the devices on eBay. Hopefully it will get some useful power out of the XZD station.

Cheers Ian.

I've emailed Cimko and asked how much it would cost to send a number of them over here.

Just out of interest the French page shows two pcb layouts - a simple-looking one and then another much more complicated. Presumably the complicated one has the inductors etched on the pcb - or am I wrong?

That's the impression I got. The prototype pcb had wired inductors and the final one has them printed.

No reply from Cimko yet.

I am interested in one of these boards too as I did purchase one of the MHW2723 modules and had not tried it yet. €3 + €2 = €5 in my book and Iound €5 note in my 'junk box' recently. Wonder if a Greek €5 note is still worth €5 these days :-)
It will be interesting to see how much power it will run with sufficient linearity for DATV.

It's rated at 3W for Tetra which is DQPSK, so probably the same for us.

Postage to UK will probably be more, but it may not save much by getting a number of them and having to post them on from here.

Still no word from Cimko. I didn't think my French was that bad. :?

I bought a couple and had a go at a DIY board - I managed to build the best wideband oscillator I've ever seen on my analyser!!

Talking to some folks in the know their comments were:

Important elements of the 'Test Fixture' are the use of capacitors having very low inductances. This is true for the 3.3uF - the ebay photo suggests it's a tant! Also L1 thru L4 are SMD inductors ( suggestion Farnell 2056515 - a Vishay-Dale product) and finally, build into the 'test fixture' 3 screens that separate the four inductors, and asociated components, from each other.

So yes, it is touchy and if there are some proven PCBs, I would definitely be interested in 2 units - maybe the BATC shop could do a bulk buy...
