Re: Web site
Hi Brian,
I am getting the Bad Gateway 502 message frequently, even a few minutes ago.
The Forum is slow in response when I manage to get access.
Sometimes it works normally.
This has been going on for quite a while now but not only here in northern Germany.
Wolfgang.

Re: Web site
Yes several times lately, also other forums are having problems not sure if they are related but wondering if there is a lot of network AI bot activity happening?
Re: Web site
The BATC Forum (like many other similar forums) is regularly being mined for information by artifical intelligence bots. Unfortunately, they do this by demanding a large number of pages at once, thus overloading our server. This makes the forum unavailable to regular users causing the Bad Gateway error.
Commercial forums get around this by using services such as CloudFlare to mitigate the effect of the attacks, but these services or either costly or complicated to set up and maintain. Especially so when we co-host the shop, wiki and streamer on the same server.
Given that our administrative resources (expert time) and funds are limited, we are blocking individual bots after attacks start to try to maintain capability. Today we have set up automated monitoring so that we can respond quicker.
If anyone has the linux and networking skills to assist us in maintaining a multi-container linux server with diverse services on it, please could they get in touch with any committee member.
Thanks
Dave, G8GKQ
