Winterhill Port 8080 Not Open
Winterhill Port 8080 Not Open
The SD card in my Winterhill (Pi 4) is failing and needs replacing. I’ve burnt a new SD card following the Software Installation Manual, it boots up all ok and works in local mode but not in ‘multihub’. Using Tom’s (ZR6TC) Winterhill remote client software, it will not connect to it because port 8080 on the Winterhill is not open and is rejecting the connection request.
Any ideas?

Have you installed ZR6TG's client version of WH from https://raw.githubusercontent.com/tomvd ... terhill.sh
The installation was reported as not working a couple of weeks ago, but perhaps it has been fixed. viewtopic.php?f=136&t=9354
The standard version of WH from https://github.com/davecrump/winterhill does not have any client modes.

Re: Winterhill Port 8080 Not Open
Would it not make sense for the BATC to host these legacy files upon which things like Winterhill depend on their own servers, so control of the location and nomenclature remain constant? Then software writers don't have to modify their code when the Raspberry Pi Foundation decide to shift things about?
I don't have a Winterhill so have no horse in the race, so just idly speculating here...

Re: Winterhill Port 8080 Not Open
Good idea Chris, I have frequently said (verbally) that I'm amazed at the way the RPI foundation operates sometimes, given its supposed to be a 'starter' system for beginners....
The 'BATC' is entirely volunteer run, so other than it requiring a volunteer to embark on the task it could happen. There is a massive amount of web-trickery that goes on unseen (or understood by me) that supports all the stuff with a BATC label on it...but like uSD card images that 'just work' it would be nice.
Something for the next ctte meeting...

Thanks Brian, if the image of the failing SD card is corrupt I will give Tom's software a try.

I totally agree Gareth, making working SD images available from BATC would be brilliant, it would save all the heartache of trying to find the correct version of OS and the correct installation programs.
As for my Winterhill, I tried to install Tom's Winterhill software today and it failed due to not being to locate a module/library, I know Tom is very busy and I don't want to pester him, so I'm now on the hunt for a working SD image.
So if anyone could help?

Phil,
Just in case you were not aware, they do make SD images available... on micro SD cards at least for the Portsdown. Winterhill isn't really a BATC image but perhaps some could be put into the shop. Not sure about the potential for hosting them online as they are very large files and most web site hosting has bandwidth limits.
