Why not get someone to remotely log in to your PC and have ready for them your Pluto plugged in, an installed copy of the free Advanced IP Scanner and a fresh clean install of OBS and DATV Easy? Then you can watch how it's set up?

Thanks Mike for your detailed reply. I agree that I tend to wander off the correct track. I did a search on the forum for the STK1160 and saw several posts that suggested it could work.
Re. OBS, I've studied various instructions but couldn't get it to work with DATVEasy. I get images in OBS and 2 green lights in DATVEasy but 0 kb/s.
I'll go through the Benno article you kindly provided a link to.
I think my problems stem from finding information in too many places with lots of them difficult (for me) to follow.
E.g. I've seen reference to setting streaming in OBS and others saying it's not required. Also some instructions written for previous versions of software and the latest software has different menus, features, behaves differently, etc.
With help from forum members like you I'll get there eventually!

Chris. Thanks for your suggestion but I'm not happy providing remote access to my PC.

This is the problem with outdated information. A good way to avoid this is to set a date limit in google - nothing more than say 2 years old.

To be clear, OBS does not require streaming. It can be done that way but it is far better to use the Virtual Webcam and a virtual audio link.

The reason you are getting 0 kb/s in DATV Easy is probably nothing to do with OBS, it will be something else, like incorrect IP address or Pluto with the wrong firmware or the right firmware but in the wrong mode. I don't know which firmware DATV-Easy requires, but I expect advice is provided in the manual.

Barry

I found that it is possible to use the Easy software with OBS and a Portsdown 4, but the performance/reliability is abysmal.

If you really want to make use of the Portsdown 4 then use the FreeStreamCoder, also by F1EJP, as detailed here: https://wiki.batc.org.uk/OBS_-_Open_Broadcast_Studio

That configuration is stable enough to run hour-long overs at 333 or 500 kS/s using 1280 x 720 @ 25fps given a PC with sufficient power.

With respect to Clive, that doesn't help - lets get this working first and not try yet another package.

So I tried DATV Easy, 3.08 - it works. It is important that the AB virtual audio cable is installed and the OBS virtual camera is started. If one of these is not there, it won't start sending data.

If you don't have a graphics card then you need to use software encoding. It needs a fast PC for H265, but H264 should work. Set the frame rate to 15 FPS.

Thanks to all who have responded.
I've tried VMix and found it a lot easier to use, so despite having to pay ($60 after trial period) I'm happy to do that. It's not a lot in comparison to the cost of hardware I've bought.
The Pluto works with Portsdown
Now trying to progress with VMix and DATVEasy and Pluto (no Portsdown)
The Pluto has network ip 192.168.2.1 and host 192.168.2.10
In config.txt I have USB Ethernet entries of ip 172.17.0.144 and gateway (my router) of 172.17.0.1
DATVEasy finds the Pluto with the F5OEO 0303 2402 entry and 172.17.0.144 and doesn't complain, but I get no RF output.
I'm using a USB to ethernet adaptor which Advanced IP Scanner identifies as Action Star Enterprise Co. and there is activity (LED flashing)
but no RF so I'm waiting for delivery of the type suggested in the DATVEasy 3.08 instructions.
