Built any new hardware recently?

Post by g4hiz » Sun May 11, 2025 5:18 pm

Hi all,

thought that you may be interested to see what happened to the free 1 x 1.1m dish (Triax ?) that was given away on this forum in March. The dish was acquired by me for intended use on QO-100.

After a good clean up (not a bit of rust present) a new feed system was constructed using the trusty POTY together with an Octagon LNB.
Good results were obtained. On the receive side, a MER of 10.2dB was achieved for the Wideband Beacon with no other carriers present.
For transmit, a 35W PA together with 333ks/s at FEC 2/3 or 1/2, resulted in D1/D3 respectively reception on same system (with other carriers present).

The benefit of this dish size is that it easily fits in my car boot, whereas my 1.2m prime focus touches the sides on the way in! So, it will most likely make its way to the BATC CAT-25 at the Midlands Air Museum in August.

Excellent dishes for the size Jen, Its what I use for /P too (and I think Colin when he takes his station out). I also added braces as the only weak point I found was the security (and hence geometry) of the feed arm.
