Ryde hardware shutdown

Post by g8vpg » Mon Oct 23, 2023 10:16 am

I have just built a new Ryde and cannot get the hardware shut down to work. It was enabled in the SSH console menu. I have checked with a voltmeter and pin 37 is pulled up to 3.3V and goes to ground when the button is pressed, but nothing happens. Has anyone else noticed this with the latest software version?

Hi Shaun

According to the Wiki, the Hardware shutdown button should be on GPIO pin 26: https://wiki.batc.org.uk/Ryde_GPIO_Connections.

If it is, please confirm that, from the SSH Console Menu, in "Settings", "Hardware Shutdown", SHUTDOWN is checked?

Lastly, if all else is correct, I suggest that you try rebuilding the card. There were some problems at GitHub yesterday that affected some parts of the download (but not all). It could be that that caused a problem with the build. I have just tried a new build and the Hardware Shutdown works on it.

Thanks Dave,
I did initially try pin 26 and that did not work. I then thought may be they mean GPIO26, which is pin 37. I will do a card rebuild and report back.

I can confirm that after the update the shutdown still works as normal.

So it must be a hardware issue.

Thank you Dave & Benno,
Today I completely rebuilt the card and it is now working OK.
I tried writing the OS for the first time using the RPi disk imaging tool as in CQ-TV 280. It produced an image I could not talk to, even after manually creating the ssh file, so I returned to Balena Etcher which never lets me down.
