Lockdown Activity Contest May-June 2020
Lockdown Activity Contest May-June 2020
In an effort to promote terrestrial use of ATV and to help pass some time whilst in lockdown, the BATC is running a month-long Activity Contest from the 16th May, which is the start of the previously announced Activity Weekend, through to the end of the IARU R1 ATV contest on the 14th June 2020.
Points will be awarded dependent on the type of contact; one point for a contact via QO-100, two points for a contact via a terrestrial repeater and three points for a home QTH to home QTH contact. Any mode can be used on any band from 50MHz up.
Points should be claimed for successful transmission one-way; do not double points for a two-way contact. Points can only be claimed for one callsign / band / method combination worked per day. So for instance, M9XYZ can work MM8XYZ on 70cm DATV, then via a repeater, and then via QO100 on the same day and claim points for all three QSOs; and of course if they have the same QSOs on the following day they can claim the points again. What you can't do is claim for contacts that are with the same station using the same method and band. Limited crosschecking will be possible so the Committee is trusting that you will all adhere to the spirit of the competition and not abuse it!
The Committee is offering substantial cash prizes of £100 for first place, £50 for second and £25 for third place.
Submit your entries using the online ladder at https://batc.org.uk/contests/ladder/ Note: Don't use the Internet Explorer browser! Entrants may be asked to confirm details of their claimed contacts. In the event of a tie, the prize will be split between the entrants and the Committee will have the final say in any dispute.
Please note that if you are entering the IARU contest you should use the usual IARU Excel spreadsheet.

In order to add a competitive edge to the ladder contest, Phil M0DNY has designed an excellent web page where you should log your contacts and everyone can view the current positions in the contest.
https://batc.org.uk/contests/ladder/
Note that as we have made this contest open to non-members, everyone will have to register separately using the link on the page - your normal BATC login does no work. You will then be sent an email with a personal link to a page where you enter your details and log your contacts. Also you won't be able to log any contacts today as the contest starts tomorrow and runs until after the ATV contest in June.
So go on and give it a try - the rules are simple but the prizes are huge! We are trusting everyone to be honest in their logging but will be doing spot checks on the winning entries.
We look forward to seeing you all on the air.

A change to the rules:
“Entries should be submitted on the online log table. Entrants may be asked to confirm details of their claimed contacts. The decision of the Committee is final”.
So you no longer need to send in an excel file

Can portable stations claim points for their QSO's away from home or is it just for locked down home stations?

This is a friendly contest - not the RSGB contest committee. All you need to do is keep Noel happy. Just make sure you social distance and keep within the spirit of the rules.
Thanks for the rather difficult QSO earlier. I have now got Express working for H264 contacts. I had to go back to the earlier version. No takers for 4m unfortunately.

Shaun - it is for ALL ATV contacts - so YES for portable. Just like the IARU Contest. I can't really understand the RSGB and Microwave Group's position on not allowing portable operation at the moment.

The May - June ladder contest is now closed -I think it's pretty obvious who the winner was but the official results will be in CQ-TV due to be published by the end of this month.
Thanks to all those that took part.

It was good fun and I hope it is repeated maybe next year because it really did encourage more activity!
