Re: GB3EY Repaired
Thanks for the explanation, I'll have to take your word for it Clive, I'm afraid that the Data vs Bandwidth vs Picture quality still sounds like witchcraft to me.. I think I'm too old now to take on new things now..
Hell, I've been trying to learn C, C+, C# for years... and I still couldn't offer a single line of code with good syntax even.
But I could still make things work in Basic without resort to a book..
It's really good to see that Ken in Barnsley has come into range now, I've been threatening him with EY for some time.

Re: GB3EY Repaired
When GB3ET changed from 4MS to 2MS/s my MER went from 2.8 to 5.9dB and I can now watch the signal 100% of the time at 58km

2MS/s is being recommended by G8GTZ with his ETCC rep for ATV hat on. There is a 3dB advantage apparently, although I haven't been able to confirm that, and there is a significant bandwidth reduction.

Thanks for that Dave.
With the signals from EY here in Anlaby having an MER in excess of 30dB, a 3dB improvement is hardly noticeable

With GB3ET at 58km I can only dream of such MER!

Re: GB3EY Repaired
I managed the complete Journey home tonight with the Alford Slot on the car and the coverage is looking just as good as when EY first came on air if not marginally better.
At the weekend I'll take the best Yagi out in the garden again and have another look around, some of the trees are looking bare(r) now.

Re: GB3EY Repaired
Still getting EY very nice at 68km IO93GM Barnsley. Right next to j36 M1.
Last night I tried several satellite receivers as alternative to Minitiouner and they produce a very smooth video output.
Roll on full repeater mode. I'm much closer to GB3YT but cannot see it due to terrain.
I can see GB3TT but that's never ever been a repeater in all the time its had its NOV ( 10 years at least ) its only ever been a beacon "sporadically" most of the time.
Hopefully that might get its receiver on sometime in the future but only due to the immense effort of one person. M1EGI. However I'm more likely going with EY as being the first to come on full repeater mode.
Very excited and much appreciate your group efforts so far. Well done.

In all the times we've met in various locations, shows and even gateways Clive.. I don't think I've actually said thanks for all your work with the repeater.
Oh and thanks for the Sunday news too, I'm often still in the erm... shack after listening to the Bradford copy, but I've often missed bits by getting distracted with stuff, you give me a second chance to catch up.

That's looking pretty good Ken.
Any further thoughts on why it disappeared?

Re: GB3EY Repaired
Of course, I blamed Brexit & the election. Now theres no real telling if I was right as one month on and into 2020. All is well.
I did find out that with preamp OUT, I get nothing and/or with Filter OUT I get nothing. So, I need both in.
Aerial then preamp then filter = GOOD. Aerial, Filter then preamp = Not as good.
The preamp is in the shack but im only 10ft under the aerial (38 element) so no long cable run.
The preamp is one of the old DB6NT ( Kuhn) type with the silver wire loop in it. I have found in the past that this loop is very suseptible to temperature which effects its tuning. just taking the lid off effects it. I find if i put my finger anywhere near that loop the thing can get better or worse.
I'ts so tempramental it could even depend on what week in the month it is (if you know what I mean) ! It could have just been that.
In the better weather im hoping to get a new RF switched preamp I have , up at the aerial. Hoping you have the RX in soon ( smiley ) because I might also have a second beam up at the same time.
Happy New year to all the team and anyone reading this ..73
