Added 13v/18v/22KHz to my BATC Minitiouner V2 - RT5047

Post by 2W0ODS » Mon Jun 17, 2019 1:40 pm

All,

Not been active on here for a few weeks as I have been quite unwell, I decided to try and do something productive today and finished off something I wanted to do to the Minitiouner V2. I have a longterm illness that rears its head on occasions and puts me out of action for some time, needless to say I've not been in work the past few weeks.

I enquired about a PCB from Pierre F5XG as I saw he had used the RT5047 himself on his own version of the Minitiouner, Pierre was very helpful and sold me a couple of boards.

I ordered a large number of RT5047 from Richtek directly and pieced together all the other components needed.
I fitted all the parts and set about making a loom earlier, I will document this later on if anyone is interested, with board locations and diagrams no soldering is required on the BATC V2 board and all connections are accessible from the headers already on the board.

I decided to connect this up so LNB A is powered from the RT5047 and LNB B is unpowered (Or switched from front panel to output the same as the incoming voltage)

I've made a short video to demonstrate how this works and attached a picture of it installed in my BATC Minitiouner V2, please note that although I have used a Hammond enclosure, I went for a slightly longer one as I wanted space to add other boards later on, though this type of board can be easily fixed to one of the front or rear panels internally.

Diode D4 is not populated on my picture, it is a voltage surge protection diode to protect the board from external excess voltage that may come down the coax, I didn't have one to hand and will fit something suitable later on.

The latest Minitiouner Beta supports this and requires a simple change in the ini file to enable this board.

Also, I have a number of RT5047 IC's available, if anyone would like to design a BATC board for the Minitiouner V2 please contact me and I will send you some IC's for design and testing. In addition to a single RT5047 based design a Twin RT5047 board would enable both Tuner Inputs to be controlled independently.

Hi,

first of all: Get well soon !

Second: Excellent, that is the missing stuff of v2 especially for QO-100!!!

Did you create a new PCB? I would be interested in one board to add it to my MT v2.

Thank you, It can last a few weeks and is quite debilitating but I am starting to get a bit better now, I suffer with migraines with a form of vertigo and balance issues, so makes it very difficult to do anything, fortunately I'm getting a bit better and started on some new medication so just need to have very little stress in my life.

I did not create a PCB, I'm hoping someone here may want to do one for the BATC shop, if that does not happen I might design one if I am well enough,
I bought the blank PCB from Pierre (F5XG) if you want one urgently it might be worth asking him if he has any more left for sale.

Thanks Dale, this would nicely finish my Minitiouner.
I had a look on the net for suggested circuits for the RT5047, and the chip maker (Richtek) provides the schematic for its evaluation board http://www.richtek.com/~/media/EVB%20PD ... ematic.pdf
I thought it would make a good starting place for anyone wanting to design their own PCB.

Hi John, the evaluation board is a bit different as they are using pull up resistors to enable different voltages and modes, in our use it's actually a much more simple circuit.

There are various schematics in the datasheet for the RT5047 which show how simple the circuit is, that's not to say you can't still use pullup resistors if you want front panel operation instead of software, or if you add a second RT5047 board and wish to use that with front panel buttons, the 22KHz tone will need to be generated if needed however.

Hello,

Minitioune software can also command the 22kHz generated by the NIM.
This is already implemented and used with the MiniTiounerPro
(MiniTiounerPro V1 has one RT5047, MiniTiounerProV2 has two RT5047. 22kHz NIM output is sent to the RT5047a nd so can modulate the 13 or 18V.)
You can look at the schematics : sheet 2 : http://www.vivadatv.org/viewtopic.php?f=83&t=442
You have just to join NIM pin40 (22kHz_TX2) to RT5047 pin8.

Hi Jean-Pierre,

Yes I am already using this on your Software with my Minitiouner (You can see this on my video), it works perfectly and also 22KHz, I will create a document on how to make a plug in loom/diagram for the V2 as I have done in my pictures.

I know Colin and and others are also looking at this and happy to buy and stock PCBs when we have decided on a design.

We should document it on the wiki and get an article in to CQ-TV.

As I mentioned in my first post and also to Dave, I can send some RT5047 to anyone who is designing a board or prototyping.

Hi,

Why do invent the wheel again?
As Dale wrote, Pierre F5XG already produced some PCBs for this useful addition to the MT v2 BATC eco-system.
So I would expect the easiest way (design proved as working) would be to contact him and ask for a common solution.
He was willing to sell a board to me....

BTW: Here can you find all details of his board:
