IARU International ATV Contest 2019

Post by G3GJA » Sat May 11, 2019 11:19 am

The most important ATV contest of the year takes place over the 8th and 9th of June starting at 1200UTC Saturday and finishing at 1800UTC on Sunday.

Last year's contest saw the UK lead the number of entrants by some margin and some bands had UK winners.

This year, bands from 76GHz down will be included in the prepared contest entry software that will be made available for download shortly.

The BATC will run a UK only 71MHz and 146.5MHz contest simultaneously.

There will be no activity weekend in June so please try to get on for the contest. I know QO-100 is a big distraction at the moment but a lot of the kit in use will work very well when not pointing skywards!

Contest rules can be found here: https://wiki.batc.org.uk/images/0/08/20 ... _Rules.pdf

I plan to be out portable at leat one of the days, more than likely both :-)

Will most likely be at IO94DF Saturday.
IO94MJ on Sunday
The weather forecast is very poor for Saturday.

If you have any preferences and would like to try let me know.

I will have equipment for all bands 144MHz to 24GHz.
2m talkback mainly plus zello and dxspot chat.

I'll go to a parking spot in the Shropshire hills for one or both days. The hunt for my second qso is on. 2m, 7-cm and 23cm DATV and 5.6GHz FM.
I'm concerned that my leisure batteries that were new last year have gone off after a diet of monthly recharges.

If anyone is in LOS with IO84KE then I will be available on one of the days for 6cm.
There's a good take off to the south - so if anyone would like to arrange a sked for the contest, please let me know.

Could also consider SOTA G/LD049 with new 6cm portable kit - might have a better take off.

My intial thoughts are:

Saturday - I will go to Whether Down behind Portsmouth to work the locals plus maybe French stations.

Sunday - venture out west to maybe as far as Dunkery Beacon above Minehead. This should potentially enable me to work the Bristol area and Wales plus Shropshire Hills and Cleeve Common, which is 138Km and workable on 10 and 24 Ghz.

Hopefully be equipped for all bands from 146 to 76Ghz except 47GHz.

More details to follow.

Change of plan:

On Saturday I'm now planning to go to the top of Walbury Hill.

Should give opportunity to work to the North, East and South plus a number of "local" stations on all bands from 146MHz > 76GHz.

Well I was due in hospital May 2nd but it was postponed till July/August.

Limited to lightweight kit I could be on Dunstable Downs both days with 5Ghz; a first proper outing with the 8 Watt Ferranti PA.

If I can find a helper maybe 2 metres.
