Kittens 19 Wirral - get on air day

Post by g8gtz » Tue Apr 23, 2019 2:18 pm

Whilst it is not the May activity weekeend, on the Sunday of Kittens 19 (12th May) there will be a get on air day with both the Wirral Club and Telford group.

It is planned the Wirral Club will go up to Winter Hill and the Telford group plus G8GTZ will go up Brown Clee near Bridgenorth in IO82QL

There will be several stations on each site trying out new and improved equipment looking to have contacts, maybe for the first time. Plus there will be an attempt on the world 24GHz DATV record.

Winter Hill offers superb coverage in the North West and Brown Clee is a superb site covering most of the Midlands and does not get activited with DATV very often, so so feel free to come on the air and work a few stations and make it the final practice session for the ATV contest in June.

Bands will definitely include 146, 5.6GHz and 24GHz but more may be added nearer the time!

Hi Noel
What time to meet at the access gate over on the north west of the Clee?
Any prospect for late arrivals? Duration of operation?
I'm doubtful about attending because I've to take our Thomas M6GGZ back to Nottingham university that day. (Drat!)

Regards
David

Hi David

We are meeting at 10:30 - as for late arrivals, suggest you talk to Heather who is organising it but don't see why not, we'll be there most of the day.

Alternatively take the gear with you and come home via a local high spot....

Just a reminder that this Sunday (12th may) there will be stations active from 2 good sites in the Midlands and North West - anticipated bands are 146MHz DATV, 5.6GHz ATV and 24 Ghz DATV.

The Telford group and G8GTZ will be active from Brown Clee near Bridgenorth in IO82QL and G3NWR and team will be active from Winter Hill - Horrocks Wood car park at IO83SO46GX.

We look to to hearing / working as many other stations as possible!

Folllowing the successful day at Kittens 19 on the Wirral, the Telford group including M0MHO, G7ACD, G4FRE, G8AQA, Dave G8.... and G8GTZ were active from Brown Clee near Bridgenorth in IO82QL and G3NWR including G4CBW went to Winter Hill - Horrocks Wood car park at IO83SO46GX - a distance of 126.6Kms

G3NWR were P5 on 5.6Ghz and several successful QSO's were made between the 2 sites including Heather M0MHO acheived her first ATV QSO. M0PNN was then worked at a distance of 65Kms (didn't get the QRA) on 5665 MHz.

G8GTZ/G4FRE then worked G4CBW on 24GHz - this set a new world record for 24GHz DATV at a distance of 126.6Kms :-) Signals wer 15 > 18 MER at both ends so there was plenty in hand.

By then M0YDH had returned to Wolverhampton and we aceheived David's first ever 2 way ATV QSO over a distance of ~ 30Kms - a great effort after a lot of hard work and perseverance - well done David!

A great day out and good practice for the contest in 3 weeks time.
