Old 70cm kit transmitter

Post by FenTiger » Sun Apr 07, 2019 6:58 pm

Hello,

I picked this up at a rally today, at first because I thought the box looked useful, but now I'm intrigued by the board inside it too. It appears to have been hand-built from a kit many years ago.

The board has a "British Amateur Television Club" logo on it (under the large silver capacitor at the bottom left) and the text "BATC 70 cm TV TRANSMITTER". The crystal is marked 108.875 - does it transmit at 435.5MHz?

Does anyone recognise this? Are there any schematics or other info for this kit anywhere?

The heatsink on the transistor suggests that it has a "real" PA stage. If I ever decide to get a licence and get on the air, I think I could learn a lot from experimenting with it. I'd be reluctant to connect it to an antenna before I'm sure I understand how it works, though!

Your TX might appear in an early CQ-TV mag. You could search the index.

Thanks! I found it described here, on page 6: https://batc.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/BestOfCQ-TV2.pdf.
