Is there another satellites beacon signal on 10706 that does not have the two modulation sidebands at about +/- 250khz from the main carrier?

I have been picking up one for the last couple of days and wonder if I'm looking at the correct sat?

What is the signal diference between the main carrier and those sidebands?

Thanks

Dave.

How well are you picking it up?

The level has reduced considerably and it is now using linear polarisation not circular. This probably because it has switched to the a beam that does not cover the UK so well. It might be the modulation, which is 20 dB below the carrier, is below your noise floor. Don't forget to check the other beacon on 11205.

I don't think there is another on that frequency nearby but you can check using this website: http://frequencyplansatellites.altervis ... eEast.html

Also John G0API on the microwave reflector said
Have seen the tone steps at approx 1min past the hour and 1min past the half hour this morning , with several step sequences repeating each time .

Thanks both,

My 10706 signal is about 28db over noise, so I expected to see some of the modulation - I have seen it before using the same set up.

I can just about make out the 11205 signal in the noise.

I did check the site you gave and the only one anywhere near is Arabsat 5a at 30.5 degrees but I don't have the dish round pass Astra!
The site says this bird has 10706 V&H and shows a heavily modulated beacon, not like the one I'm receiving.

I think I'll just keep checking the IS0GRB web site till I see some downlinks signals and then see if I can find them on my dish.

Thanks anyway

Dave.

I think you are seeing old data on that site. It was circular and much stronger than it is now. Strong enough we managed to receive the data in the sub carriers. The 10.706 and 11.205 are on opposite polarities. You might find 11.205 gets a lot stronger if you switch polarisation. There is an image further up which shows what it was like earlier.

I was using H polarisation and can just see a signal in the waterfall.
Today I'll check my dish alignement as we have had strong winds here in Blackpool.

OK about the strength of the beacons - it will be interesting to see how they compare to the downlink signals.
