Congratulations to all involved - it's a joy when it works on path's that 'shouldn't on paper' work.
A good effort and a nice high distance record to beat... one day.

Many thanks to Noel and all involved last Wednesday What a brilliant day! Sadly my RX had decided to die despite being tested the night before! How utterly frustrating then to be trying to sort out my RX problems while everyone else was transmitting and receiving pictures! I was convinced it was either my finger trouble with the laptop program or the USB cable from the RX. It wasn't until I arrived home I found the RX was at fault. Anyway new RX was ordered from Ebay yesterday morning and it arrived this morning first class post!
This makes me think that since the equipment prices are so cheap then for future expeditions it might be wise to take spare RX and Tx modules.

One suggestion for a future record attempt, There is a clear straight line path from West Runton our operating site, right up to the coastal village of Benthall to the South of Sunderland. a distance of 245k. The path appears to miss Flamborough head. Any thoughts from the Yorkshire group or anyone in that area as to whether or not it might be feasible?

No doubt our record will soon be surpassed but what a great day and cheap amateur radio doesn't get much better when shared with fellow enthusiasts!

Norfolk to Yorkshire - Facebook live video available

Dave - G7URP chair of Norfolk Amateur Radio Club - did a Facebook live stream of the Norfolk end of the event.

This is a really good video of the event showing just how strong the signals were and featuring the Felix the cat box!!

I'm local to the Sunderland area Peter.
The only Benthall I can think of is north of Sunderland in Northumberland OS grid reference NU237287
Thats 345km. Do you have the grid reference?

Sorry Terry I think we are talking about the same place it's just south of North Sunderland at 55.03'07-65N 1.37'44-34 W 4 metres ASL at the car park distance to West Runton is 345k!

It's a long long haul but who knows with the right sea conditions? It's got to be worth a try sometime I think. What are your thoughts?

You are looking at the wrong panel - we are assuming this is a ducting path, not the 50% of time path. You can see from the mechanisms panel that ducting will dominate and you can guess this from the zone map as its a sea path skirting a coastal zone.

Try putting in a more realistic time percentage, say 10% or less and you will get a path loss estimate much closer to line of sight.

In other words, it looks entirely feasible given the right conditions.
