Help with PuTTY please
Help with PuTTY please
Hi all
Hope aomeone can advise where I am going wrong.
I dowloaded Jessie and put it on to an 8GB card.
added ssh in the root as per instructions.
running the advanced IP scanner I could not see the Pi so I interrogated my router and found the IP address.
putting the ip address into PuTTY and changing no settings PuTTY returns a fatal error 'network error software caused connection abort'
What have I missed?
Thanks in advance
Nick

Re: Help with PuTTY please
Hi Nick
To help us diagnose the problem, please can you post:
- What is the configuration of your network? Is the PC wired directly to the router? Is the Pi wired directly to the router?
- What IP address did your router say the RPi had? What is the IP address of your PC?
- What happens if you type "ping 192.***.***.***" (where 192.***.***.*** is the IP address of your Pi) at the Command Prompt on your PC?
- Please re-check that the filename of the ssh file is really ssh, and not ssh.txt (which Windows will display as ssh).
Sorry it's so many questions.....

Re: Help with PuTTY please
Hi Dave
The pi is connected to the router and the router gives rpi address as 192.168.1.138
The PC is on the wifi and is 192.168.1.156
Tried pinging 138 and there is no response.
Running windows 7 and I checked SSH in notepad on one of attempt saved it as all files ensuring it has no extension too.
What I have also noticed is that after it fails , I read the card on a PC again and the SSH file has gone??

Re: Help with PuTTY please
There is a long thread on this error here. https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/view ... hp?t=16380
Are you running any software on your PC that might block putty. E.g. some virus/firewall/security package?

Re: Help with PuTTY please
Hi
Now that you can ping the RPi, please try Putty again, but this time turn off any Windows firewall (or any other anti-virus firewall on your PC).
The fact that the ssh file disappears is a good sign. It means that your RPi should be listening for the ssh connection.

Re: Help with PuTTY please
Hi Dave
I know Putty works as I have used it to talk to a linux sat box using telnet
Just reconfirmed and it works.
AV and firewall now off.
Tried to SSH to Rpi with same result.... failure
still do not understand why advanced ip scanner does not recognise it too?

Re: Help with PuTTY please
Hi Dave started from scratch.
Reloaded SD card with the image etc.
The Advanced IP search tool now sees the Pi that it would not before?
Putty logs in properly.....................
Everything is now working...........
My conclusion something must have gone wrong with the first card install of Jessie !!
thanks again for your help
