CAT17 final plans

Post by g8gtz » Mon Sep 04, 2017 8:17 am

Only 5 days to go and we are finalising plans for CAT17.

As it is not a BGM year, it is mainly a technical meeting and we have tried to put in a lot of hands on / demo time - so bring your latest project along and show everyone what you are up to. There will be test equipment available to set up that filter you made and to see how good or not the spectrum is from your DATV system! It will also give lots of time to meet other ATVers and catch up with what everyone else is doing.

Unfortunately Jean Pierre F6DZP will not be with us this year and so we have had to re-organise the agenda slightly - below is what we hope will be the final version!

We would still like a volunteer to take over the PA and filter session otherwise Sunday is turning in to the G8Gxx show!

There are plans to stream the proceedings but we will be using a 4G mobile connection, so it may not be reliable. All the presentations will be put on the BATC Youtube channel after the event.

If you are planning to come, don't forget to register at http://www.g0ghk.com/events/cat17/ - it's the only way to guarantee you will get lunch!! No money is taken at registration but you will be charged £10 a day at the door by FRC. This is primarily to pay for lunch and the free tea and coffee but you will be expected to pay if you attend, even if you do not have the lunch or free drinks.

We look forward to seeing you at CAT17

Thanks Noel for the update. I applied at the registration and got a Google Doc sent to my email address
last week. There was something about it that didn't inspire confidence that the registration was successful.

I've 3 more filters to assemble this week. CAT17 is a very golden opportunity for a new ATV operator!

See you all Saturday.

Hi David,

You are registered - attendance so far looks like 46 on Saturday and 38 on Sunday!

Not sure where we will all fit - standing room only. But should be a good weekend :-)

I watched most of it on the stream.
It's a bit far out of my driving range these days
Technical content very good.
Sound a bit of a problem from time to time.

So CAT 18 -
* At the new Goonhilly visitor centre
* To be opened by Mr Portillo via moon broadcast
* Opening ceremony via Eshail2 and rebuilt Arthur - that should wake it up.

Looking forward to catching up on the BATC Youtube channel. It sounds like I missed a good weekend, I'd have liked to bring my Portsdown along for constructive criticism.

...are you sure I can't use a pair of 813's?...

Hope you all enjoyed the stream....
G8DGR - what sound issues did you encounter please? I wasn't aware of any specific issues... Would like to know to improve it for next time!

Many thanks

Ok ...
Mainly very good but a few sound issues.

Anybody without a mic and a monitored constant output level is inaudible to the stream.
Speakers moving in relation to their mic's cause QSB.
Conversations across the room don't get picked up.
Missing part of something technical is always a problem
Look at one of the dreadful game shows. Not one word gets lost in a big area.

Noel is a Host up to broadcast standard.
The supporting cast need a bit of help to make sure they can be heard.
