ICs and Toko Inductors Wanted

Post by G8TVW » Sat Oct 08, 2011 5:10 pm

I'm looking for the following ICs and Toko inductors that were used in the CQ-TV 174 (April 1996, Page 31) SPG article by Peter Delaney. They are proving difficult to obtain!

Philips: SAA1101
Sony: CXA1228S

Toko:
H287LSKS10570 (Circuit Ref: DL1)
H314BNKS2612 (Circuit Ref: L8)
H286BAIS4963DAD (Circuit Ref: L9)
A119ANST1040Z (Circuit Ref: L11)
10RB181LY823J (Circuit Ref: L12)

Regards,

Dave, G8TVW (QTHR).

The ICs have now been obtained but I still need the inductors.

Anyone?

Hi Dave,
I wonder if you had any success with the inductors since your last posting? I also started this project some time back and got all the parts except the inductors; family life intervened for a few years and I have only just started to become active again. Unfortunately, the electronic component world has moved on and I am having the same difficulties that you have had! Did you ever manage to locate a source of supply?

Hi Dave re your ICs for inductors have found this on a well known site a DL1 looks like a delay line.
Replace the whole circuit with one of these.

Hello Cllive,

My apologies for the delay replying to your post, I haven't checked the forum for while!

I have had partial success, I am now only short of one of the inductors: H314BNKS2612 (Circuit Ref: L8).

When I last (July 2012) contacted BEC, they were still able to supply some of the inductors but had a minimum order charge of £10 + £3.95 P+P + VAT = £16.74. However, the BATC (Brian Summers, treasurer) was kind enough to add the items I wanted to an order they placed with BEC, so I got them at cost price! :)

The inductors were:

A119ANST1040Z (Circuit Ref: L11) - in stock - Price £0.48 each
H286BAIS4963DAD (Circuit Ref: L9) - in stock - Price £0.82 each
10RB181LY823J (Circuit Ref: L12) - in stock - Price £0.50 each

I don't know if BEC can still supply them but it wouldn't do any harm to ask.

Of the remaining two, I got the H287LSKS10570 (Circuit Ref: DL1) (3 of) from an eBay seller, which are still being advertised, as mentioned in the post from Chris (greengrass), G0DAE.

L8 (H314BNKS2612) and DL1 (H287LSKS10570) go together as a 'pair'. L8 is a bandpass filter which adds a delay to the chrominance signal, so DL1 is used to delay to the luminance signal by the same amount.

If all attempts to obtain L8 and DL1 fail, it would probably still work if they were bypassed.

Hope that helps.

Regards,

Dave.

Hello Chris,

Thanks for your post.

I also found the DL1 inductor from that seller, so I know have three of them!

I could, I suppose, use the 74ACT715SC IC instead of the CQ-TV design, but that would defeat, at least partially, the object of the exercise!

Regards,

Dave.

Hello Dave,

Good to hear from you regarding your continued success in obtaining the inductors for the SPG; many thanks for your detailed reply.

Following your suggestion, I've had a search of the BEC web site and drawn a blank with all of the inductors, unfortunately. However, I haven't actually contacted them directly yet, so there is a possibility that they may have a few gathering dust on a shelf somewhere. I'll send them an e-mail and see what response that produces. I wonder if BATC have a contact within the company?

I followed up Chris G0DAE's link to that well-known auction site and, like you, I am now the proud owner of three of the DL1 units - many thanks for that pointer, Chris, if you are following this thread.

Meanwhile, I'll keep a lookout for L8 (H314BNKS2612) which may also pop-up on an auction site and I'll be sure to let you know if I find a source.

Good luck with the project,

Best regards,
Clive.

Hello Clive,

At the time I contacted BEC, the inductors they could still supply weren't listed on their website then, so I'm not surprised that they still aren't! I assume that the BATC only have a 'contact' at BEC, as a result of being a customer.

Glad to hear that you were able to get three DL1s from the eBay seller.

I keep checking eBay (and elsewhere) for L8 (H314BNKS2612) and will let you know if I come across any, and thanks for offering to do the same for me.

Regards,

Dave.
