Digithin on air - 95 Kms on 146 Mhz

Post by g8gtz » Tue Jun 16, 2015 7:41 am

On Sunday using Digithin with the on board Si570 oscillator module with a YU1LM bandpass filter on the output - absolutely essential see http://yu1lm.qrpradio.com/bp%20yu1lm.htm

This went in to an RD06 and RD15 amplifier (M0DTS in CQ-TV 247 and needs very careful screening between stages) and an 9 element yagi I managed a one way QSO with G4CPE over 95 KMs.

Unfortunately I did not manage to receive Arthur which is why this post is in the Digithin thread and not Minitoune thread :-)

Congratulations to M0DTS and G1LPS who managed a 115Km 2 way QSO on the same day!

Re: Digithin on air - 6 dB improvement over DVB-S

Out portable again today and worked G3PYB over a 1 mile path to test 146.5 MHz gear was working.

Also worked G4KLB from Portsdown Hill over a 56 Km obstructed path on 70cms. He had an MER of about 6 dB on 2MS normal DVB-S but a 12dB MER using 333kS from a Digithin - with a 3dB improvement each time you half the bandwidth, a 6 dB improvement is what you would expect :-)
