OK. thanks Mike, it's what I suspected but I am not very familiar with the options on these terrain measurements.
Best regards,

FYI, Justin G8YTZ told me a couple of years ago that he was contemplating creating a 6m ATV repeater at Detling Hill. I'm not sure if he followed that up in any way.
It'd be great to have a local repeater on air once again, so I hope your application is successful.

That is spooky as I have been trying to get the old 6M repeater and coax cavities back from Hastings as it is 'stuck' on the old JT site. Potential for it to move this way too but unfortunately I also fear that the 'flying wildlife', (as the outside door was removed by some kind person), in the tower roof may have put pay to this kit and sure by now it may feature a nest or three!. Will keep in mind though. https://www.qrz.com/db/GB3HX

Dave

That Detling site is superb. GB3KN was installed there when it was first put on in 1980 and I was the keeper.

Back then, the original RAF WW2 pattern wooden tower was still in use that occupied the rear of the compound.

Based on the performance achieved with GB3EY and using a 10dBi gain antenna at 8m AGL for the Rx end, the attached coverage plot shows what might be like; impressive!

Hi Steve

JO02GB52GB puts you in a field west of the village of Ashen; have you got the locator right?

Have followed up and discussed the site. It is too damn cold to do anything just now, so a full site visit will have to be early next year.

Will follow up the NoV side and see how this moves forward.

On the hardware side, obviously subject to keeping 23cm TX, hopefully, will be interested to hear some thoughts on the ideal setup.

Currently we have a hardware encoder/driver (cannot remember the make), going into a couple of drivers and PA.

The question is, rather than use the old DVB-S 4 Msymbols 1/2 FEC - maybe the repeater should have a facelift and use the Portsdown Repeater and Pi. My concern is Pi reliability, as the site is not readily accessible. The current repeater hardware was on 24/7 for a few years and never had an issue.

Thoughts on the subject, preferred settings etc. would be appreciated. TX Pics attached just for interest.

PS. ignore the screwdriver - this is a feature :)

Hi Clive

For some reason I added the extra letters … should be JO02GB5260 ….we back onto fields / farmland here so may look like I’m in a field as it’s only a small village with 300 ish people in it .
