On 21 February Ofcom launched a consultation proposingthat all radio equipment (not just amateur radio) that can transmit at more than 10W (EIRP) be subject to a new licence condition for compliance with the International Commission for Non-Ionising Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) Guidelinesfor public exposure to electromagnetic fields.
The proposalsinclude a requirement to carry out and record assessments to show compliance using one or more of the following:
Physical measurements
Tests
Calculations
Following manufacturers’ guidance/instructions
It is expected that most stations will be able to show compliance without having to make measurements but this could be a show stopper for an amateur radio station and IT IS IMPORTANT you make your views known NOW.
The RSGB have made it easy for us by preparing some documents to read and some guidance on how to answer the survey questions: https://rsgb.org/main/technical/emc/emf-exposure/
June 12th is the final consultation date and It is vital that we all oppose the non-proportionate changes to Amateur Radio Licence conditions proposed.
PLEASE add you voice in opposing these proposed changes to Licence Conditions.
