146 MHz NoV power increase :-)

Post by g8gtz » Fri Mar 10, 2017 5:14 pm

From this weeks RSGB news - thanks to John G4SWX and Murray G6JYB for their support of the BATCs informal request and putting the case to Ofcom :-)
146-147 MHz
Following a request from the RSGB, Ofcom has kindly agreed an increased power level of 50 watts ERP for new 146-147MHz Notice of Variation applications. The band is only available to holders of a Full Licence and all other NoV terms remain unchanged, including antenna height and geographical restrictions. New applicants or existing NoV holders can use the online application system at http://www.rsgb.org/nov to get the new NoV free of charge.
Another 3 dB could make a significant difference but watch those shoulders! Too late to apply for this weekend.

Well I have the new NOV and a 15watt class A broadcast amplifier. More power from IO91RV tomorrow.

Thanks to those involved in gaining the increase.

For info - as before, it is a near-instant self-service applicaton system that runs at RSGB-HQ

The updated NoV has been changed from 25 to 50W erp (all other conditions remain, inc HCM compliance) and it will be valid to end of October as per previous practice

PS You have to apply personally to benefit; and replace any previous one which had the 25W erp limit. The process should only take a few minutes if you have your personal licence serial number to hand

Me too - it was instant. I might have to dig out my Ex VHF broadcast pallet. I recall when I measured it, it was quite good up to about 20W RF if biased to class A. I think I will need about 7-8W in the shack to get to 50W EIRP from my 7 element X yagi - I lose about 2dB in the feeder and about 200W in the heatsink.
