Customs charges on BATC shop orders

Post by g8gtz » Wed Apr 07, 2021 7:35 am

Members outside the UK should note that from January 1st 2021 all packages posted to outside the UK are required to have a customs declaration on the front of the package - this must be filled in with name and address of sender and the value of the goods in the package.

This has meant significant extra work for BATC shop volunteers but it also means that overseas members MAY be charged VAT and a handling charge by their local delivery office.

The amount charged and any threshold below which charges are not paid is set by each country and overseas members should check their local regulations (and NOT BATC) before ordering to see if they will be charged.

Please note the following:

BATC will NOT make a false declaration of the value of the goods.

BATC will not split an order in to more than 1 package to reduce the value of goods in each package to below any VAT threshold.

All goods are currently sold at cost plus to members and we will NOT reduce the cost of goods and increase the value of post and packing to reduce the customs liability.
