Analog TV with Pluto SDR

Post by 2e0yml » Tue May 16, 2023 9:03 am

I'm new to ATV and recently started down the QO-100 rabbit hole for which I've picked up a Pluto SDR. My QTH also happens to be close to GB3TV which is a 23cm analog TV repeater. Is there any way to generate analog TV signals with the Pluto or do I need to use a separate modulator?

There are some gnuradio flowgraphs for generating TV signals but nothing as polished as Portsdown etc which might be more suited to a newbie.

Thanks,

Matt

Hi,
GB3TV has had some changes including a DATV input/output. Ask Phil G8XTW for details.

Hi Steve,

Thanks Steve. Nice to see you here - I think this is the second time we have crossed paths online, but not on air yet! (Although I do hear you regularly with Arthur...) Will ask Phil about DATV on GB3TV next time we speak.

I'm still interested in whether I can generate analog TV signals with the pluto - even as just a purely academic exercise.

Hi Matt

The simple answer is no (to generating FM ATV from a Pluto).

It could probably be done if you wrote some custom firmware, but I doubt that anyone would see it is a good return on their time.

Far better to get going with digital ATV using the Portsdown or DATV Easy.

Perhaps something to discuss with those manning the BATC stand/shop at Dunstable this Sunday!

Hi Steve

Noel will be manning the stand and shop with help from Justin G8YTZ. I have a family wedding in Shropshire this weekend.

Thanks Dave.

It turns out that sdrangel has an ATV modulator, although it only sends luminance data but I was able to get a B&W picture across my desk.

I will be at the rally albeit directing traffic. If anyone reading sees a ginger beard in a hi-vis jacket, come and talk to me about ATV :)

Hello,

if someone is looking for something well-functioning analogue, they will also find it here:

very good and cheap.
