CEL Electronics Ltd. P147-20 TBC(?) Manual

A friend has what was described as a TBC. It was made by CEL Electronics Ltd. (originally a UK-based company, which was later sold to an American company) and has the model number P147-20. It is in need of repair and a service manual would be very useful! I've tried a web search, which didn't turn up anything particularly helpful, although it was described as a 'synchroniser' on a few sites!

Does anyone have any additional information about this device (is it a TBC or a 'synchroniser' )or, better still, a manual for it or know of a source of a manual? Thanks.

Regards,

Dave, G8TVW (QTHR).

Hi Dave

It can be both a synchroniser and a TBC, if it is a frame store version ( a full picture) it can do both jobs, it may have a bnc called drop out/RF on the back for connection to the VTR to sense the loss of RF and repeat that bit of the picture again.

Regards

OK! Thanks for that info.

Hi, I was one of the designers and programmers on this unit. CEL is still trading in Saffron Walden Essex. They are based on shire hill and now call themselves CEL broadcast. Some of the P147 crew are still there and they would be delighted to assist. Welcome to ask any questions of me - I will do my best to remember but it has been 25 years. :D

Hello Ken,

Thanks for your reply. Does CEL have a website? I searched Google but didn't find one. It's actually a friend who was looking for the manual but as it was about 18 months ago, I don't know if he still requires it! I've sent him an email about it anyway. Will let you know the outcome.

Regards,

Dave.

I still have my 147-20 sitting at the bottom of the rack in my studio! Happy memories of using it with Sony's series V low band U-matic suite many moons ago! Still have the 151 controller for it tucked away in a dark corner somewhere ! Always get a kick out of seeing the controller in the Bond film Octopussy when Q uses it as a camera remote!

Thanks for the memories.
