I tried that too. You need to modify the filters but then it works. It doesn't have any front end gain though, so needs a preamp in front. Narrow filtering too is a good idea given all the strong signals kicking around.

I modified a G4DDK Nacton 70/28MHz Transverter for 71/437MHz operation with an AD4351 local oscillator which works well. See http://g4fre.com/Nactontv4m.htm

Having looked at the conversion it crossed my mind that each Nokia Dolphin amp has 3 identical input strips which may well tune to the 3XXMHz frequencies mentioned and already have a mixer on each one (wrong place I expect). The wonderful world of surplus......
