May 11/12 Activity Weekend

Post by G8GKQ » Tue May 07, 2024 4:08 pm

As the weather forecast looks good, I am planning to be out portable on both days:

Saturday 10 May on Povington Hill near Lulworth in Dorset IO80WP11AF. I can potentially take all bands from 437 MHz to 24 GHz, and currently have skeds with G0UHY (437) G8GTZ/P (10/24) and possibly G8VPG/P (10). Please let me know if you are available. I'm planning to be active from 1 pm till 4 pm.

Sunday 11 May at Lane End near Winchester IO91JA. This has a reasonable take off to the North and East, but suffers from vegetaion on the higher bands. I hope to test 1255 with G8GTZ and am looking for other skeds. I'm planning to be active from 1 pm till 4 pm.

Talkback on 144.75 FM and Zello ATV South.

I'll be out /p from IO94LI from Saturday Afternoon ~2pm till Sunday Evening.

Mainly active on 70/23 but will have most other bands too.
Please leave a message for particular sked/band and I'll check I bring it along!

Due to the closure of the M25/A3 junction (my main route to other high places) and the likely traffic chaos in the surrounding routes I'll be running from home with 70cms only (unless we get a lift in which case I'll try 23cms too). JO01AI09kq Bromley Kent.
Mains power means I can run full legal power on 70cms now so hope to be seen at least one way.....
Fingers crossed for some lift too :-)

I'll set up for 2m from home. I can run 70cm but I seem to live in a 433MHz RF black hole on that band :(

Hi,

For those who want to try longer distances. I'm Sat/Sun QRV for skeds from home and will monitor zello ATV South.
Especially at 70cm it may be worth trying a QSO with some patience and airplane reflections.

QRV with DATV on:
70cm: 4x16el Yagi 200w
23cm: 26el 30w.
13cm: 67el 15w

Not a bad path for me if my RF escapes eastwards up the Thames valley. Almost due East @ 91 degrees/272.
Happy to try both ways either day, especially if we get a bit of tropo.

Thanks to all who I exchanged pictures with today - a really enjoyable outing. Sorry that I could not transmit much on 70 cm - my primary lead-acid battery has died after 7 years of service. I'll be out again tomorrow near Winchester (IO91JA) from 1pm till 4pm.

Today's contacts:
  • G8LES 91 km: 437 (2-way) 1255 (one way) 2395 (one way)
  • G0UHY 102 km: 437 2-way)
  • G4XAT 169 km: 437 (one way)
  • G4SAQ 70 km: 437 (one way)
  • G8GTZ/P 75 km: 10 GHz (2-way) 24 GHz (2-way)
  • G4CPE 184 km: 437 (one-way)
  • M0DTS/P 418 km: 437 (one way)
And I also got into GB3SQ on 23 cm (I saw myself on the stream), but did not have time to try to receive it.

I'll post the screen captures tomorrow.
