This Friday 9/1

Post by M0DTS » Tue Jan 09, 2024 3:17 pm

I might go out portable with 70/23cm this Friday Evening/Saturday Morning if any tropo appears.
Forecast looks slightly promising.
I'll update close to the time if I do plan to head out.

Hi Rob

EY is off for its digital upgrade, so nothing to check the Rx on.

Didn't want you waste time looking for it!

I will be available for simplex.

The updated tropo map is not as good...
Thursday eve looks better now but I'm not available for that... a thing called work!

We will see how it progresses...

It certainly did!

Conditions were good from that hilltop at IO94LI.
More longer Dx than usual, some closer signals were not well enhanced.

Here's what I worked/saw:

GB3SQ - Accessed on 70cm 333Ks (QRM probably from near me!) and 23cm 250Ks - Quite stable!
GB3JV - Accessed on 70cm 333Ks (same QRM i imagine) and 23cm 333Ks - Very stable.
GB3TN - Accessed P4 on 1249MHz Analogue using IC905 - watched on stream, nice chat with Mark G4WVU who saw me accessing.
GB3PV - Saw D4, not as strong as on previous tropo conditions
GB3VL - Massive signal at times but big qsb.
GB3UD - Saw D15 but didn't try access.. not setup for 4Ms Tx with PD4.

G4CPE - 1-way contact with Arthur on 70cm/23cm 333Ks.
G8YTZ - 2-way 23cm contact with Justo on 333Ks
G0MJW - 2-way 23cm contact with Mike on 333Ks
G4YTV - 1-way 23cm contact with Richard on 333Ks.
G3GJA - 2-way 23cm contact with Clive on 333Ks - flat band Saturday morning.

I heard one station from Holland on 2m 59+ but they had gone by the time I called back so it was probably open there too, didn't get chance to put the 10GHz rx online to look.

Looking forward to the next bit of decent tropo, you really do have to just go for it when the forecast shows some potential, you are rewarded on some occasions!!!

Thanks to those who looked for me.

Yes, I know...hint taken....I have kept the calendar clear for the forthcoming 70cms Activity W/E, we might get lucky :-)
Are you, or any others, planning on being out and about?
