Jun 10th/11th IARU Region 1 ATV Contest

Post by M0DTS » Tue May 30, 2023 3:34 pm

Hi All

I plan to be out portable as usual from the North Yorkshire Moors, locations not confirmed yet but will follow soon.
I may just do one location but depends on activity.
I will be active with all bands 70cm to 24GHz
6cm is the only band I don't have Digital on.

Who else is going to be active?

Rob

I have a family wedding on the Saturday but hope to be out somewhere on Sunday with QRO 70cms and QRO 13cms. uW gear also available but unlikely to work anyone as the two usuals are also not around...

I plan to be active from beside Clee Hill village quarry, Shropshire as in past years on one or both days. The new Fogstar battery per Gareth's article is due to turn up 1 to 3 days beforehand. That's cutting it fine.
2m, 70cm and 23cm DATV especially now the Pluto boots every time. 6cm FM ATV set - I can relocate to a second location to work Telford and Wirral club members who have these. There's no northerly paths from Clee Hill village quarry area.
I have unproven 4m and 6m DATV gear for both sorts of DVB but only a delta loop on 6 and a cubical quad on 4. It's not been worth bringing in the past.

Maybe Noel G8GTZ will let me have an exchange this year? I hope for lovely QSOs with Graham, Steve, Arthur and hopefully lots of others.

Sorry, David if we have not made a QSO yet - however I'm doing something a bit different this year as we are actually away on holiday in the Derbyshire Peak District during the contest...

So I am hoping to do a bit of holiday-type operation on the higher bands only, probably 2.3 to 24GHz (including 5.6GHz FM), as I won't have room for masts and big beams etc.

I'm hoping to do a couple of hours late Saturday afternoon from Merryton Low (IO93AD) with good paths to all points South. Then on Sunday morning from either IO93EK or Holme Moss IO93BM both of which have good paths North and hoping to work Rob M0DTS on NYM.

It's all a bit TBC but I will post on here as plans change. Note Dave G8GKQ will not be active during the weekend either...

After the excitement of North Yorks last year (Thanks Rob!)I will be visiting Shropshire this year

I will be active from 1400 on Saturday until 2000 on Saturday near Titterstone Clee probably IO82RJ, weather permitting

Bands will be 2GHz 3GHz 10GHz 24GHz and 47GHz DATV. No room in the car for the masts/antennas for the lower bands or FMTV

I will not be active on Sunday

Callsign TBD!

Talkback will be on 2/70cm FM and zello

We're hoping to be near Naseby (North of Northampton) sometime over the weekend, IO92LJ.

I'm expecting that the location will give us access to GB3GV and GB3TV, not been there before but the takeoff looks great.

We'll have 2m and 70cm for Talkback. 2m Digital TV, 23cms FM and Digital. 2.4GHz and 5.6GHz FM TV...

G8VAT and M7RIA...

Super - I'm also in the same grid square acting as the G4FRE sub-station for lower bands that don't use dishes on Saturday. I'm on Magpie Hill by the Clee Hill village quarry. Andy G7CFC may be trying out G8TA club kit on 70cm from the same site. I answer to David and will assume all Dave calls are to my neighbour!

A little update.

I'm probably just going to do one location IO94LI24 Saturday from 1pm and most of Sunday.
I'm also taking 6m with me just in case... 5el Yagi and ~100w.

Weather looks good, but that will mean poor conditions during the daytime heat, will be better for DX Saturday evening and early Sunday morning.
