I will be active from Winter Hill, IO83RO on 2m and 70cm. I have 23cm but the beam is fixed pointing SSE. Listening 144.750 and Zello. This site is very good to the south, unusable to the North (Sorry Rob).

Posted for Noel:

Well that was a disaster - as posted I did go up to Merryton Lowe in the Peak District but someone was else was in the magic parking space so I had to find another spot.

I eventually established talkback with Dave G4FRE on Clee Hill using 144MHz SSB but was only S2 - I must have a problem on my mobile whip….

Dave received my numbers on 2.3 and 3.4 (mer 20!) but I could not decode any video from Dave despite having an MER of 20 on both bands. Dave had local copy so his end was OK but I did not have any spare kit to try other solutions (holiday operation) so we concluded a problem at my end and gave up.

Unfortunately this meant I couldn’t go out and work Rob today….

Before we packed up Dave and I tried 24GHz but the signals were very very poor - only S5 SSB at best with a large amount of rain scatter (sounds like aurora) caused by the thunder storms rolling around the Midlands - the worst signals I’ve heard over a LOS path and certainly would not go on TV….

And then a Land Rover pulled and I was politely informed that I was on private ground and they would wait until I moved on!!

Certainly one to forget so roll on next year!

Regards
Noel

Well, it happens.....I got home around 11am SUnday morning from the Saturday wedding, just in time to miss any decent enhancement on 70cms. I was able to work Arthur G4CPE two-way (a first), tried with Mike in Bolton, David in Shropshire and Rob in N York moors. No contacts :-(
At the end of the day (5:30 local) I did work Justin G8YTZ at 5km one way on 70cms, and 2-way on 2m.
As stated, 'roll on next year'.....

I worked a few more than last year - M0YDH/P David on 2m, 70cms and 23cms
also G8TA/P Andy on 70cms all on Clee Hills, Shropshire.
G4FRE/P Dave on 13cms, 9cms, 1 way on 6cms, and 2 way 3cms also on the Clee Hills
24GHz failed miserably probably because by this time thunder was all around and 20km of rain
was falling in the path.
Tried with Mike up at Bolton but the path was hopeless - same with Rob on the Yorkshire Moors
on 23cms although I could just make out his signal on the band scope but too weak for video.
All on Saturday.

Quick update on my receiver tale of woo...

Much to my surprise it was not a hardware fault (MT card worked OK on OpenTuner) but a software update to the Portsdown rxr fixed the problem.

If only I'd taken my PC with me....

I have just published the International Results for the IARU Contest.

There were 62 entrants from 9 countries competing, using bands from 50 MHz to 47 GHz.

For the second year running, the overall winner was Erwin OE8EGK, who was one of a number of stations who maximised their points through roving to multiple sites. Lex PE1CVJ won the 50 MHz section.

There were not as many UK entries as in previous years; well done to Rob M0DTS who was the highest scoring UK station.

The results are on the Wiki here: https://wiki.batc.org.uk/IARU_ATV_conte ... al_Results.

I'm still looking for volunteers to take on the task of scoring for next year.
