Midweek activity 31 may

Post by G4FRE » Fri Jun 03, 2022 9:27 am

As i was doing the "Radar returns to Malvern" Tour(part of the malvern walking festival) on the afternoon of 31 may i decided to take the day off, which was very convenient as G4XAT was going via Burton Dasset again so we could try some higher bands on the path to my house.

The path is 62km long. First we tried 10GHz on NB then on DATV:-

Next 24GHz on NB then on DATV. Terrential downpours on the path meant we had to wait for them to pass before succesful decodes:-

I was running 1W to an 18" dish pointing out of the bedroom window:-

We then moved on to 6cm FMTV:-

Having this video only QSO has provoked me to get my audio receive and transmit on the subcarrier working

Yes, a very useful test session as with a visible target it was easier to check dish alignment. Being able to see Dave's 'hillside' helped, until it vanished behind the curtain of rain! With that sorted I tried out my 'cobbled together feed solution for 24GHz on my big 60cms dish. Clearly the RF did not like the path provided as the signals were well down on the smaller dish. Progressing that can wait until after the contest.
The 6cm FM had been tried previously, but I have swapped some of the RP SMA's off the boards which made connecting it all up so much easier....
